El pulled Josh into a nearby closet, not wanting their conversation to be put into the public.
"How dare you," She started off "Making this about you."
"Do you not understand? I'm helping you, I have to do this." Josh cupped her face in his hands, his thumb grazing over her cheek.
"Why not just let me go? You'll be happier, and so will I." El took his hands off her, building her walls higher. Stronger. She did not want someone to break them down.
"I love you. Just let me love you, let me save you." El sighed.
"If I do that then it will only kill you in the end. I will not be responsible for breaking you. Even though you broke me more."
"I didn't meant to." He said through clenched teeth.
El hugged him gently, trying to calm him down. Instantly he loosened up at her touch. Her arms traveled up his chest; cupping his face as tears formed in his eyes.
If she stayed then she would be suffering. If she died then Josh would. It was a situation with an easy answer in her head. However she never saw someone cry like this over her before. Not even her mother.
"What can I do to make you happy? Something small." She whispered, her energy gone. It took all she had to brush her hair this morning.
Josh pondered on what he should request. To kiss him? That is wrong of him. He wasn't going to make another mistake like last time. To let herself fall in love? That was something she would have to do on her own. To let him fully in?
"Go on a date with me, let me make you happy even if it's for a night."
