Chapter 14

The feeling of something cold overtook your whole body. Opening your eyes, you are met with none other than Shiki.

It took a moment to realize he had poured cold water all over you. Your clothes were soaked and he seems to be holding back chuckles.

You weren't sure how to even react to this.

"Did you really just pour cold water on me when I was asleep...?" You ask, already sure of an answer.

"Yep~" He smirks. He crouches down near your face and smiles. "Good morning, (Y/n)."

You groan and turn the other way.

"Aww~ Don't be so grumpy, it looks like you had a nice nap~" He grins while tapping you.

You did have a nice nap, until he poured cold water on you...

"Come on~" He continues to tap you. "Little Miss (Y/n) needs to wake up~" You groaned again in a sour mood. His childish tone of voice didn't help.

He sighs and he stands up. "Guess you don't want to know what I found~"

Shiki's P.O.V

I felt in the mood to tease her, so I did. She groaned and I had to stop myself from laughing.

Her back was turned to me but it was obvious I was annoying her. Although I guess I can understand why she's so grumpy after just waking up...

"Guess you don't know want to know what I found~" I call. She twitches and turns back to me.

I take her phone out of my back pocket and keep it in the hand behind my back.

"Can you guess what it is~?" I grin. She looks at me, clearly annoyed.

"I guess you don't want to know then?"

I had already looked through her phone the day when I got it on our first encounter. I had cleared out most of her numbers. If I didn't know them, then she didn't need to know them either.

"What is it...?" (Y/n) is trying not to sound annoyed at me but it's obvious.

"Well, maybe with that attitude I won't give it back." I pout as she rolls her eyes. Lucky for her, I don't plan on hurting her again today.

I put her phone back in my pocket and offer my hand. "Want to walk home?" I ask, looking at her tired face.

She seems to feel a bit better and gives me a smile. Her small fingers intertwines with mine and we walk out of the school building.

The sun was beginning to set, but the two of us walked hand in hand.

She didn't say anything, nor did I. The silence wasn't tense, but it was reassuring.

Even if they tell her tomorrow that I'm the one who hit her, I'm sure she'll have faith in me. But I don't want to think about that right now.

I'm just enjoying this moment of peace. A moment where I'm not angry at her. A moment where I'm not making her cry.

This is a moment that I can make her feel safe. And that alone is good enough to bring a smile to my face.

Your P.O.V

You and Shiki walk hand in hand.

You look up at him and see a kind smile on his face.

This was the first time you've seen a smile so genuine. He seems to be truly happy alongside you.

It seems as if smiles are contagious, because now you too have a smile on your face.

Just before you were terrified of him, but now you felt at ease just being by his side. This was the real Shiki Natsumezaka, the Shiki that you love being with.

The two of you reach your apartment.

"Is it okay if I come in for a bit?" Shiki asks with a kind smile. You nod your head and enter the apartment.

"I figured that I should return this back to you before I forget..." He says, holding something in his hand.

"What is it?" You ask.

He opens his hand to reveal your cell phone. You gasp in surprise, holding it up in the air. Of course it was dead, but that's only to be expected.

"Where did you find it?" You ask still in shock.

"I, uhm, found it in some bushes by the school..." He says as if he was uncertain. But you didn't pay it any mind and sigh in relief.

"This is great, thank you so much Shiki!!" You run towards him and give him a big hug.

"H-huh? (Y/n), what're you doing?" He asks, slightly confused.

"I'm giving you a hug! Thank you for finding my phone!!" You don't let go of him and grinned.

A few moments go by and you still haven't let go. He then pats your head.

"That's enough for now, kiddo..." He lightly pushes you away.

You didn't want to let him go.

"Don't worry, I'll see you tomorrow-"

"What if you aren't like this tomorrow...?" Your voice shakes and he looks at you in confusion.

"What do you mean?"

"What if tomorrow you change? What if you get angry at me again...?" You feel sad just thinking about it.

"I love you just like this, Shiki."

He looks at you in shock. You then realize what you just said and cover your face in embarrassment.

He sighs and puts a piece of hair behind your ear.

"I can't promise how I'll act tomorrow. I don't want to hurt you, I never want to hurt you ever again. But sometimes things happen and I'm always scared that you'll hate me..."

You look up at him.

"I won't hate you. Even if you act scary, I won't leave you Shiki. I promise." You can see a faint smile on his face.

"I'm glad..." He pats your head once more, before backing away from you.

"For real though, get some sleep and I'll see you tomorrow at school, okay?" He asks with a reassuring smile.

You nod your head and watch as he teleports out of the room.

You take a moment of silence before turning off the lights and heading towards your bedroom.

Sitting on your bed, you stare at the cellphone in your hand. You try to turn it on but are met with the notice of its dead battery.

You plug it into the charger and plop onto the bed. You were hungry but didn't feel like getting up to eat.

"Good night..." You mumble to yourself before slowly closing your eyes and falling fast asleep.
