Sometimes someone hurts you so bad, it stops hurting at all. Until something makes you feel again and then it all comes back, every emotion, every hurt, every moment.
When my dad chose his other life over us, I felt as though I could never feel pain again, that anything I did feel would not be able to compare to the pain I felt when he left. So I closed myself off from everything, nothing could touch me. I was Kota Rivers and I thrived in a painless world, where nothing affected me. That was until I met Finn.
She taught me how to feel again. Something that I don't think anyone else could have done. So when I started falling for her, I opened myself up again and I felt everything all at once, the good and the bad. And I realised something. That at the end of it, it was better to love something you couldn't have rather than have something you couldn't love.
"Hurry up! Get in the fucking car!" I yell to Corey as Ben speeds us off down the road.
"Do you remember his address?" Ben asks me.
"Yeah it's not far from here." Corey replies.
As we pull up to the house I all but sprint out of the car noticing that all of the lights in the house are off and there is no car in the driveway.
The door is unlocked and as I push it open and turn on all the lights I'm met with a most confusing sight.
"Where the fuck is everything?" Ben asks as him and Corey walk in behind me.
The house was completely empty, there were no decorations, no colour on the walls, no furniture and most importantly no Finn.
"Finn!" I yell as I run up the stairs hearing Corey and Ben go to different parts of the house.
"Finn! Where are you!" But I get no reply and as I go straight to Ravens room I find it empty.
I see the indentations in the carpet where his bed used to be and I close my eyes remembering the sight I witnessed when I previously entered this room, dreading the absolute worst.
"Kota!" I hear Corey yell up the stairs.
Sprinting down I see them both stand in the kitchen with a draw open and several files spread out on the bench in front of them.
"What is this?" I ask.
"I'm trying to find another address or something that might tell us where they are. But instead I found this. Transactions and Records of purchases." Ben mutters looking over the files and flipping through them. "I think Raven was transporting something. Something big." He continues. "Look at these receipts, ten thousand dollars worth of something called... Benzoyl-methy-gonine." He says struggling with the word.
"What is that?" Corey asks.
"I don't know... it says it here." Ben replies pointing to the word as Corey pulls out his phone.
I pick up a file named Deliveries and browse through it seeing shipment details and several addresses.
"Cocaine." Corey says quietly as he reads his phone making us all stop to look at him.
"Cocaine, Cocaine?" Ben asks widening his eyes. "You have got to be kidding me."
"No it all makes sense." I say. "Think about the amount of time he took off school, the constant secrecy about his personal life and the money he spent so freely on his party."
"But I mean this is Raven, he's just a scrawny little shit." Ben says.
"I don't think we knew him as well as we think we did." Corey mutters.
