Junior Boys Round 1

Mario and Luigi walked up to the sports hall both looking forward to the day ahead. The didn't have Flower Academy to compete against but they had Nintendo High who were usually very strong in track events.

Mario sat with Waluigi in the coach. "How many points do u think we will get this round?" Mario asked.

"We should get at least well over 500 possibly 600 points if we are solid. There is no way we can catch Flowers Academy who got 721 yesterday."

"Yeah!" Mario said.

They have arrived at the Athletics centre. They were all warming up before coach DK gave them a speech. 

"Boys, the girls performed exceptionally well yesterday lets see how you can do!" Coach DK said.

"Waluigi and Troops you need to warm up for hurdles!" Coach DK ordered.

Waluigi and Troops were preparing for the Hurdles race. Troops was racing first. Waluigi second. Troops was in lane 6 for the Hurdles race.

"Take your marks!" The official shouted. "SET!"

GUNSHOT!!!

The race began and Troops had a really shaky start but he managed to get on his top speed and get the win at the end. Troops got his time 12.2. Waluigi was up next for the hurdles race. The race began with Waluigi have a great start and no one to be catching him. He finished the race rather quickly. He got a time of 11.8.

"Well done Waluigi!" Mario said.

"Yep, I should be able to challange the Flowers Team if we meet them in regionals!"

1500m was the next event. Mushroom only had Michael doing it but he is rank 2 in the USA in 1500m in his age group. The 1500m race began and Michael took the lead in 5 seconds. 3 laps later he was 100m in front of the other racers making the final stretch. His time was 4.05.

"He is good!" Waluigi said.

100m was next on the track. Coach DK said to Mario "You're gonna run another 11.5 aren't you?"

"Of course," Mario said.

Yoshi was running first. He was put on lane 8. The official set them off. Yoshi doing well in second place and was catching the guy in first, who was from Nintendo High. Yoshi did manage to catch him at the end but they both got the same time, which was 11.9. Mario was next.

"Go on Mario," Waluigi said. "Let's see what you get!"

"Ok," Mario was in full concentration. The official set them off. Mario very comfortable and opening a gap. He won it in style. He broke his PB and got 11.4 in 100m.

"My guy Mario!" Waluigi said. "You broke the school record again!"

"Well," Mario said."I do practise a lot."

200m was the next race. Luigi, who may not be as quick as Mario but has a very quick time for 200m, was performing in that event along with Diddy Kong. Luigi was a lot better than Diddy Kong in this event so he had high expectations. He was up first.

The officials set them off with Luigi running the bend well but a nintento high boy was ahead of him. On the straight he started to catch up and beat him in the last 10m of the race. His time was 0.2 outside his PB though. He got 24.5. Diddy Kong was next and he was running on the outside lane.   He ran a lot better than last year in the 200m. He even beat Luigi and got 24.3. 

"Good job Luigi!" Mario said. "Diddy Kong has improved though."

The next event was 300m with Bowser jr and Petey running for Mushroom High. Both of them getting 39.1 and this was great for Bowser jr as it was his first time taking part. The 800m also went as the two Toads both came 1st and 3rd.

It was another 50 minutes until the team had their field events. Dk gave them a team talk."Ok guys, those track events were amazing! Lets do equally as well in our field events!"

50 minutes came and went. Yoshi and Diddy Kong went to do high jump, Mario and Waluigi went for long jump, Luigi and Bowser junior for triple jump, Captain Toad went up for Pole Vault. Bowser and Petey went up for Shot Put, Troops and Dave for discus, Toad and Michael for javelin and finally Funky Kong and Dry Bowser for hammer.

For they high jumpers they both started at 1.41 even though that would not go close to what Djhon cleared for the Flowers. They both cleared this height. In the long jump Waluigi was the only one who jumped so far. They had to wait for a missing jumper. Waluigi  jumped 5.68. "Well done Waluigi bro lets try and beat it next round!" Mario said. He was forth to jump. Once it was his turn he ran and jumped. He got 5.91. In the shot put Bowser successfully got 14m without fail. Funky kong and bowser both got 30m in hammer. Luigi got 12m in triple jump with Bowser Junior getting 11.82. Captain Toad cleared 2.30 in Pole Vault. So far it was good for Mushroom High. 

Yoshi skipped two heights to 1.53. He cleared 1.44 and Diddy kong used two of his jumps and cleared both 1.47 and 1.50. He had 3 jumps remaining but Yoshi still had 5 jumps. He then went and cleared 1.53. In the Long jump Mario beat his previous score getting 5.97 and Waluigi, destroying his own score jumped 5.92. He was celebrating. In the triple jump Luigi fouled his next jump and Bowser junior beat his previous score and got 11.96. Toad and Michael both fouled their first javelin throw but in their next throws Toad got 38m and Michael got 35m. Bowser hasn't beaten his score yet and Petey with only one throw left needs to get a throw in because he fouled both his previous one. He got a throw in which was 13.2m. 

Yoshi ended up clearing 1.56 and Diddy Kong fouled 1.56 and ended up sticking with 1.53. Mario couldn't beat his score in his last jump only getting 5.92 and Waluigi fouled his last jump but it didn't look like he cared. Luigi beat his scored and got 12.23m and Bowser jr reached 12.02m Captain Toad reached 2.50 in Pole Vault. Bowser beat 14m getting 14.32. The javelin throwers both reach 40m in the last throw. In the Discus throwers Dave got 30m and Troops got 32m. The day ended with relay and they won it.

"What a day!" Waluigi said "We scored 635 points!"
