Chapter 7: Offense versus Defense

Third person POV:

        After getting changed, Ayame entered the gym along with Shimizu and started stretching. She sat down on the gym floor, her left leg bended over while her right leg was straight. She reached for her right foot with her hands and hunched her back towards her leg. Ayame was really flexible, since she was able to make her chin touch her right knee with ease. The other players stared at her while she stretched, she didn't seem to notice as she was too absorbed into stretching.

        "Is that girl made of rubber?" Tsukishima asked sarcastically.

        "Well, she was able to kick a 180 cm third year in the face." Yamaguchi recalled the incident that occurred a couple days ago. The other volleyball players looked at him in disbelief.

        "She knocked a third year out by kicking him in the face?" Kageyama asked, arching his eyebrow.

        "Three of them actually, and she was holding a juice box on her hand too." The upperclassmen's jaws dropped.

        "I'm ready." A voice came behind Suga. They all flinched at Ayame and the ginger hid behind Kageyama.

        "How could a cute girl be capable of such violent things?!" Tanaka yelled in disbelief.

        "I used to take Tae Kwon Do lessons. I just finished learning Kendo recently." She casually said.

        "Finished? And by that you mean-?"

        "Black belt."

        Their expressions looked priceless, the color of their faces drained away instantly, with the exception of Tsukishima and Yamaguchi, who were already aware of Ayame's capability.

        "Shall we get started?" Coach Ukai entered the conversation, completely oblivious why they were scared stiff. " I wanna try something out, so I'll be picking the teams." He pointed to Kageyama, Hinata, and Tanaka.

        "You three will be on one side," Hinata yelled excitedly along with the bald wing spiker.

        "And you three," He pointed at Ayame, Nishinoya, and Daichi, "will be on the other."

        "An offensive team versus a defensive team..." Takeda Sensei said. Coach Ukai grinned and nodded.

        "Let's get started shall we?" Daichi said. Ayame smirked as she slipped on her knee pads, and you can tell that she's fired up, since it had been a long time since she played volleyball along with other players. Daichi's team and Tanaka's team shook hands before getting started. Ayame ended up shanking Kageyama's hands. His cheeks had a hint of pink before he walked back to his position, preparing for his serve.

Ayame's POV:

        While I shook the opposing setter's hands, I was able to gather up some information about his arms, and from the looks of it, he seems to be an all round player, which makes it hard for me to read his movements during the match. I also need to look out for Hinata's jumps and overwhelming speed, and Tanaka senpai's attacks are based more on power.

        It was Kageyama's turn to serve, and I can tell by his starting form, that he was one of the team's service aces. I readied myself for a powerful serve. He tossed the ball up and hit it with an overhand. Fortunately, he aimed right at the libero.

        "Nice receive, Noya-san!" Daichi senpai yelled. I tossed the ball to Captain, he ran towards the ball and slammed it down in an open area, but Tanaka senpai was able to chase after it and hit it towards Kageyama. Hinata came dashing up the net at an incredible speed and launched himself on the air. Kageyama tossed the ball directly into Hinata's hands and slammed it down.

        The accuracy of that toss, along with that speed and jump power... These two are monsters.

        "Ah there it is. The oddball quick strike." Coach Ukai mumbled. "Let's see how the other team handles it."

        I wiped the sweat on my forehead with the back of my hand. It was Captain's serve and Hinata received it with his face.

        "Nice receive, Hinata!" Tanaka yelled. Hinata quickly recovered and sprinted back up to the net, along with Tanaka on the opposite end. Who will they toss it to?

        "TAKE THAT!" The wing spiker slammed his palm into the ball and barely missed Noya-senpai's dive, earning the opposing side their second point.This time, Hinata was a decoy.

        Hmmm...

        The game continued with the opposing team scoring five points, and our team only has one point so far. The worst part is, that one point was made because Hinata spiked the ball out of bounds. But I did notice something that caught my eye.

        "Hey guys... I have an idea." I faced my teammates. Daichi senpai and Noya senpai glanced at each other and smirked as we gathered up in a circle.
