Sixteenth part

He didn't do much except walk right back out again. I could feel my cheeks heat up.
"Let me guess, your ex?"
"Yeah" I kept looking after Archie as he walked away.
"You can walk after him if you want to, I'll wait here" I hesitated for a second.
"I'm so sorry, I'll be right back" I said and ran out. I caught up to Archie.
"You've been avoiding me" I said causing him to turn around.
"Well I've been working Veronica"
"You don't work every hour of the day"
"Veronica, we broke up"
"Well our promise was that if we meet and still have the same feelings for each other we'll get together again"
"Who is that guy?"
"Huh?"
"The guy you were drinking coffee with" I didn't mean to but I totally forgot about Jacob for a few seconds.
"His name is Jacob, he's my dad's assistant. I'm hoping I can talk to my dad with the help of him"
"That's all he is? A way to get to your dad?"
"Archie..."
"No I get it"
"I haven't moved on"
"But you want to"
"I do. You haven't talked to me once in a year, what am I supposed to think? That you didn't want me to move on?"
"You can move on if you want to, the problem is you haven't"
"No I haven't. But only because we made a promise and I knew seeing you again would make me fall back in love with you"
"Veronica, the promise was that if we still had feelings for each other we would get back together"
"Archie, what are you saying?"
"I'm saying that I'm not in love with you anymore. I want you to move on and forget about me, I'm sorry" I felt tears start to form in my eyes. I looked down so that he wouldn't see me crying.
"If that's the way you feel I guess I'll stop calling you" I said choking back on tears. He put his hand on my arm before turning around and walking away. I walked back to the café and sat down across from Jacob again.
"I'm so sorry for that, I just had some unfinished business to clear up I guess"
"Are you okay, Veronica?"
"Yeah, why?"
"I can see that you've been crying"
"I'm fine. Like I said, unfinished business"
"I don't wanna be pushy, but if you wanna talk I'm here for you"
"Thank you. Not just for being here, but for still staying even though I'm a total pain in the ass"
"You're not. I am starting to think that you're a little crazy though" he said smiling at me. I smiled back at him.
"I am starting to get crazy, but you're here to bring me back. What do you say we make this our first official date?"
"I thought you weren't ready?"
"Well I just needed to ask Archie a few things and now I'm ready"
"If I knew this would turn out to be a date I would've paid for you coffee"
"It's fine"
"So now since we're dating maybe I can take you out to dinner tomorrow night?"
"It sounds like a good idea"
"Good" my phone buzzed and I got a text from Arizona.
"I'm starving, buy me food before you come home?"
I sent her a thumbs up back. We sat in silence, but a comfortable one, drinking our coffee. When we were done we got into his car.
"Is there like a subway or something near by?"
"Yeah, there's one just around the corner. Why?"
"My roommate wants food so I promised to buy her some"
"Well I can wait outside"
"Thank you" he drove for like two minutes before stopping outside of a subway. I walked inside and ordered two large subs. After that he drove me home. Just before I was about to get out I leaned over and kissed his cheek.
"Thank you for today" I said smiling. He smiled back.
"No problem" I got out and walked up to our apartment.
"Thank god, I'm dying here" Arizona said and walked over to grab the bag from my hand. She sat down on a bar stool and took out her sub. She started eating.
"So how was your date with Jacob?" she said, clearly trying to piss me off.
"It was good"
"Wait, it was a date? Like a real official date?"
"Yeah, I guess it was. I met Archie today and we talked"
"And?"
"He's not in love with me anymore. So I might as well move on"
"So Jacob is a rebound?"
"I don't know what Jacob is, okay?! All I know is that I do like him, I just haven't let my self admit it cause of Archie. But now when I know he's moved on I can finally admit that I wanna be with Jacob" my tone wasn't very nice and I could see that Arizona got a little sad about me basically getting mad at her.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound rude"
"I know, just, you don't sound like you're over Archie"
"Well I have to be, since he clearly doesn't care about me. Besides school starts in two weeks and then I have to focus on that, not on who I'm in love with"
"You suck at arguing"
"Shut up and eat your food" she laughed at me and then continued eating. I grabbed my sub and started eating it. I wasn't sure what was between me and Jacob. But I did like him for real and me and Archie were clearly over. So why did it matter that I was moving on, even though I didn't want to.
