Chapter 2Lady and a Queen
St. George's Cathedral"Sofia, you'll accompany the King at the funeral of the late King Julian and Princess Tamara..."
Sofia kept silent as she watched through the windshield of the car they were riding. As what she observed, every street in going to the cathedral was already crowded by the people, holding their country flag, each of their own. It was one of the saddest moments of the Philippine monarchy - losing two royals at the same time, the King and the heir apparent.
"Am I still his betrothed even though he's the King now?" She asked her mom, Lady Violetta of House Snowdon. For almost a decade of her father's death, her mom has been the one keeping their House together in unity.
"There hasn't been any announcement or news that you were not anymore his betrothed, Sofia," Her mother answered in the most regal way, "Unless the King decides so, he is still your betrothed."
"He's my cousin," She answered. She never would have thought she'll be betrothed to a royal at thirteen. She wasn't close to the senior royal family. The only royal that connects them with the current royal family was King William, great-great grandfather of the late King Philippe, who was also the grandfather of the late King Julian. Her deceased father, Lord Charles of Snowdon, is one of the great-great grandson of King William. Despite of being brought up by aristocratic ways, they only have a little amount of royal blood.
"He's your distant cousin, probably already a sixth degree cousin or seventh," Her mom reasoned out, "If nothing will change, soon, you'll have to marry him, Sofia."
"I'm just eighteen."
"Yes, a legal age."
Ilang segundo naman ay dumating na sila sa St. George's Cathedral. The royal guards opened their car doors for them as they went out. All of them were greeted by a huge crowd, all were holding flowers and flags.
She was about to smile at the people when her mother whispered to her, "Sofia, do not give a smile. This is a funeral."
She stopped. Nauna namang pumasok ang Mommy niya sa loob ng cathedral. Sofia Elena took a deep breath as she also entered the cathedral.
All of the people inside the cathedral were already at their designated seats. She followed her mother again, greeting the other royal guests.
"Your majesty," Lady Violetta greeted and both of them did a curtsy to the Queen consort, Merida, "Our condolences."
Merida only gave them a nod and a sad smile, the Queen consort was wearing a black veil, covering her face. Her mother also greeted Prince Phaedron and Princess Amalia who both gave them nods and sad smiles as well. After giving their condolences, both her and her mother, Lady Violetta went to their designated seats - to wait for the arrival of the two coffins and the arrival of the new and the youngest King in history, King Madrid.
