"Bullsh*t!" Lorenzo couldn't help but curse in frustration. His mind kept circling back to one thing, Annys was mad at him. He had acted like an asshole again, and he knew exactly why.
"Ang isip-bata kasi natin." Yeoj removed the bass guitar hanging from his shoulder and sat down to the side. His thoughts weren't any different. Michie was mad at him too. In her eyes, he had once again become a jerk, and he hated that.
"It's hard to grow up, right?"
Both of them turned toward the sudden voice. They had forgotten that Tito Diego had been watching them all along.
"That's okay," Tito Diego continued as he sat on a nearby chair. "All of us struggle to become a real man."
Pareho silang nnatahimik, nananatili ang atensyon kay Tito Diego.
"Did you know that butterflies cannot see their wings, but the rest of the world can?" he asked.
Ano namang kinalaman ng paru-paro?
Confusion flickered across their faces, but they listened anyway. "They can't see their wings, yet they still try to fly. And because of that, they realize they can."
He let out a soft sigh and looked at them more seriously.
"What if that butterfly refused to fly just because it couldn't see its wings? Do you think it would ever be happy? Imagine living your whole life not knowing what you're capable of... just because you were too afraid to try."
Slowly, the message began to sink in.
"I'm not saying this for Oren Bar," he added. "I'm saying this for you. To make you realize that trying... that's the best thing you can do to make you happy."
He looked at them both, seriously this time.
"Alam ko, dama ko, kita ko, deep down in your heart, gustong gusto nyong tumugtog. You're just letting fear lead you. So be the butterfly that chooses to try... not the one that refuses."
That hit them.
But it hit Lorenzo the hardest.
He realized how much of an asshole he had been earlier. The truth was, he did want to play. He wanted to hit the drums, perform in front of a crowd, and prove they were good enough.

What they didn't know was that Annys and Michie hadn't really left. They were standing outside the door the whole time. Listening. Choosing the butterfly that chooses to try.
And unknowingly, Lorenzo and Yeoj inside were choosing the same.
The next day, the day before the competition, they decided to practice again, determined to be more prepared.
