Chapter Five

KO's voice sounds different in the first few episodes...

KO and Y/n quickly made their way through the ventilation systems. They were both in their own minds, until KO spoke up.

"Y/n, are you okay? You've been acting different ever since we started working here." KO said.

"Of course I'm fine. Why would there be anything wrong with me?" Y/n asked.

"Well you've been acting kind of... Mean to Rad and Enid. Even though they said they were your friends." KO said. Y/n furrowed her eyebrows and looked down.

"I'm fine, KO. I'm not mad or anything at them." She said. That was a lie.

Truth be told, she was jealous of Rad and Enid. KO had started hanging out with them more, and not paying much attention to Y/n. She didn't want to lose her friend. Even though it just seemed like Y/n found KO silly and cute, it was much more than that. Much more than Y/n wished to show.

"We're here." KO cut through the silence as they stopped. KO kicked the metal vent out of the way and tumbled to the floor, Y/n following. "Mom! We need you to be young and hot again!"

"What?!" Carol exclaimed. She turned to the other ladies. "Uh, let's go ahead and take five, girls..." She chuckled, blushing. The others left, leaving the three alone. "All right. What did you two do now?"

"I told them not to do it but they wouldn't listen." Y/n crossed her arms. KO sighed.

"Long story short, we need you to put on your old outfit and take a picture for my boss." KO said. Carol raised an eyebrow.

"Let's try long story medium." She said. KO breathed in.

"Okay, so Mr. Gar left Enid, Rad, Y/n and I in charge of the store while he was gone so we snuck into his office to try and learn more about him, but then he forgot his keys so he was coming back and we freaked out and accidentally destroyed a picture he had of you in his office and we need your help to replace it before he sees it and gets really, really disappointed in us and the entire planet exploded!" He explained really fast in one long sentence.

"Gar still has pictures from back then?" Carol asked, more to herself.

"Did you two know each other?" KO asked.

"Yeah, uh..." She was quiet for a moment. "It's grown up stuff."

"Aw, that just brings up more questions!" KO groaned.

"Will you help us, Carol? I'm sure Rad and Enid are running out of ideas to distract Mr. Gar with." Y/n said.

"Sure thing. We just gotta find my old outfit. C'mon, kiddos." Carol said as she led them into another room.

Carol dug through a box dubbed secrets until she pulled out an old light blue outfit. She held it in front of her.

"I don't think it's going to fit... Bleh." She said.

"But we've gotta get that picture!" KO exclaimed.

"Hm... I might have an idea." She said as she turned to Y/n. Y/n furrowed her eyebrows in confusion until she realized what Carol meant.

"No way. I don't look anything like you. I'm not doing it." Y/n said.

"Oh, c'mon. You're a spitting image of me!" Carol said.

"No, I'm not. Mr. Gar Wil definitely be able to tell the difference." Y/n crossed her arms and turned away.

"C'mon. Trust me." Carol said. Y/n sighed.

"Fine. But I'm only doing this because there's nothing else we can do." Y/n grumbled. Carol smiled and handed her the outfit. Y/n, annoyed, snatched it away and went to change.

After a couple moments, Carol knocked on the door.

"Y/n? Are you okay in there?" Carol asked.

"N-No! I changed my mind! I'm not doing it!" Y/n stuttered from the other side.

"What? Why not? What's wrong?" Carol asked.

"I-I don't want to come out..." Y/n stammered, embarrassment clear in her voice.

"It's okay, Y/n! You wanna help KO, right?" Carol asked. Y/n sighed.

"Yes..." She mumbled.

"Well then come on out! We just gotta get a picture, and then you can take it off." Carol said. Y/n groaned and went quiet. The door opened to reveal Y/n. "Aw! You're so cute!" Carol gushed as she looked at Y/n.

The outfit fit her perfectly, and even complimented her skin color. She groaned in annoyance once more.

"Can we just take the picture?" She said. Carol nodded and led her to a spot to pose. Y/n got in the same position as the picture. Carol grabbed a camera and snapped a picture. She handed KO the results.

"You had better hurry back now." Carol said. KO waved goodbye to Carol and they made their way back into the vents.

They made it back into the bodega, where Rad was distracting Mr. Gar with puppets of him and Boxman. Mr. Gar heard the vent closing, and turned to face them. Y/n and KO gasped and climbed up a shelf. Mr. Gar walked over.

"Smells like guilt and corn chips." Mr. Gar said. KO fell off the shelf, pulling Y/n off, too. They hid in neatly stacked groceries as Mr. Gar passed them. KO pulled her out and quickly ran to the office door.

"Hooray! We saved the day, and Mr. Gar is none the wiser! Yeah!" KO exclaimed. Y/n quickly covered his mouth. Mr. Gar turned and faced them. KO gasped and grabbed Y/n's hand, pulling her into the office.

"KO! Y/N!" Mr. Gar shouted as he stormed towards the door. Rad and Enid tried to stop him but he pushed right past them.

He went down into his office, where Enid, Rad, Y/n and KO stood. He immediately noticed the picture.

"What is going on here?!" He boomed. Enid and Rad began to explain, pointing at each other as their voices overlapped. KO stood there, not knowing what to do until Y/n spoke up.

"KO, just tell him." She said. He sighed and looked up at Mr. Gar.

"Mr. Gar, we went into your office and accidentally destroyed a photo." KO said. "Please don't be disappointed in us. Please, sir."

"I wouldn't be disappointed if you hadn't gone in here. But I am very disappointed!" He raised his voice. Enid, Rad and KO looked down while Y/n seemed unphazed. "How could you?!"

"Hey, KO, I found another picture and-- oh." Carol walked into the room holding a photo. Mr. Gar gasped and turned to her. He began stuttering, unable to get a full word out. "Uh... Well, I found a copy of the picture if you want it..." She handed him the picture. He took it. "Well I've gotta go. I'll see you at home, KO and Y/n. Bye." Carol waved goodbye to the two and walked away. Mr. Gar looked down at the picture.

"We are never speaking of this again. Understood?" Mr. Gar said. The others nodded. "Now get back to work."

KO secretly grabbed the photo of Y/n, keeping it as they scrambled out of the room and back into the store.

"That was scary..." Rad mumbled.

"Whatever... Big baby." Y/n said. She looked over at KO, who was smiling at her. She raised an eyebrow. "What?"

"You're being nice to them..." He said. Y/n's eyes widened as she scoffed. She crossed her arms and turned away.

"No, I'm not!" She said. The others started laughing. She smiled slightly.

Maybe things would be nice here.
