Chapter Nine

KO and Y/n made it to their next destination- Rad's fear space. Enid was in there, trying to find her way out of a small room that had Rad's face on each tile, laughing.

"KO, Y/n! Thank goodness you two are here! I've been trying to find my way out of this room. I guess Rad is claustrophobic or something because I have no idea what else this weirdo is afraid and it's driving me crazy to to figure it out!" Enid exclaimed.

"Claustrophobia doesn't sound right. Quick, what do we know about Rad?" KO asked.

"Well, he puts on this macho man act on, but inside he's a big softie." Enid said.

"So Rad's biggest fear must be admitting his vulnerability. He doesn't like being sad." KO said. The Rad faces stoped laughing and gasped. "Now, let's get emotional."

KO thought of him dropping a hot dog, and he immediately started crying. Enid thought of Pird coming and annoying her, and began crying as well. Y/n thought of KO leaving her, and began sobbing loudly.

"S-Stop crying! Y-You're gonna make me--" The Rad faces started crying, filling up the room with tears. As they got to the top, the exit opened and they got to Mr. Gar's fear space.

Enid, KO and Y/n gasped as they looked up. A large head was floating over Mr. Gar.

"It's all your fault!" The head shouted.

"That's Mr. Gar's fear?!" Enid exclaimed. KO pulled out a POW Card.

"I know him! That's Laserblast, a strong hero from before I was born." KO said as he showed the others it. It was a level 8 hero.

"How do we stop him?" Enid asked.

"Uh, well, since he's a poweful hero... We need a powerful villain!" KO said.

"That's a great idea, KO, but where are we going to get one?" Enid asked. Y/n started sweating nervously.

"Um... This is gonna be scary..." KO said. He stepped forward, and coughed up something. Y/n's skin turned pale. She knew what that was.

"KO, what is that?" Enid asked as the thing charged towards the head.

"I don't know. This is what came out when I played the game." KO said.

"Is it your greatest fear?" Enid asked.

"I guess so." KO said.

The thing smashed the head with one hit. It exploded, sending pieces everywhere. KO approached it slowly, cowering in fear as the thing glared at him. It pressed his nose, opening up his head. It entered KO's head. He closed it and patted his head, smiling.

"See you in my nightmares!" KO said. He turned to Mr. Gar. "Mr. Gar, it's okay! I faces your fear for you!"

"KO, Laserblast isn't my greatest fear. That is..." Mr. Gar said as he pointed to the cloud left over from the explosion. It cleared, revealing young Carol flying on a giant sandwich. KO raised an eyebrow.

"Young mommy?" He mumbled.

"Look me in the eye, you big baby!" Carol shouted. "How could you do this to me? And why did you bring a sandwich?!" Carol raised her voice as she shot pickles at them. Just as one was about to hit Mr. Gar, KO saved him by cutting it in half. Carol's eyes widened. She glared at KO.

She began shooting things at KO, but he dodges them skillfully. He made his way up to Carol, and tackled her.

"KO!" The others called for him, worried.

As the dust cleared, KO was revealed to be hugging Carol. She gasped and looked down at him. Her eyes softened as she smiled slightly, hugging him back. She looked behind him and down at Mr. Gar. She smiled at him and closed her eyes, glowing a golden color. She exploded, and turned into a star as the exit out of the fear space formed. KO sat down in front of it.

"Shall we go home?" KO asked as the others approached. They nodded and walked up to the door.

Before they could open it, it suddenly glitched and disappeared. KO gasped and backed away from it.

"What happened?" He questioned. Y/n let out a sharp gasp in realization. The others turned to her.

"What is it, Y/n?" Mr. Gar asked.

"We haven't faced my fear yet..." She mumbled. The world suddenly started cracking, a white light shining through the cracks. The world began to fall apart, revealing a white void.

There was a loud laughter throughout the world, echoing everywhere. Y/n's skin turned pale in fear.

"W-What's happening, Y/n?!" KO exclaimed in fear.

"Oh no... You have to get out!" She turned to the others. She looked completely horrified. "You have to leave now!"

"Y/n, we can't--" Enid was cut off.

"Now! Get out! Get out, get out, get out!" She said.

"But why?! Don't you want our help?! We can help you!" KO said

"GET OUT!" Y/n shouted louder than KO had ever heard her. He suddenly felt a jolt inside as he began to wake up. The last thing he saw was a blackness surrounding Y/n.

"KO, are you okay?" Someone asked him. He groaned and rubbed his eyes, opening them. He saw Enid, Rad, Dendy and Mr. Gar standing over him. He instantly remembered what happened.

"Where's Y/n?!" He sat up, looking at Y/n, who was still wearing the helmet.

"Do not bother her. She's still inside her fear space." Dendy said.

"C-Can't I go in and help her?!" KO asked.

"I would not advise it." Dendy said. KO sighed.

"What do you think that was, that stuff that got her?" KO asked his friends.

"It looked kind of like that stuff you coughed up." Enid said.

"No way! They can't both have it! Where would they have even gotten it?" Rad said. "And besides, KO's had shades of purple in it. Y/n's was black and green mixed together."

"Yeah, but Y/n's had shades of purple in it, too!" Enid said. Through all the bickering, they never realized she had woken up. The clatter of her helmet falling to the ground startled them.

"Y/n! You're okay!" KO smiled as hugged her closely. "I thought something bad had happened to you." He said as he buried his face in her hair.

"I-I was just... Taking care of my fear. I didn't want you guys to see it, so I made you leave." Y/n said.

"Y/n, you must be pretty terrified of something because that was really scary. I mean, who was that person laughing? What was that blackness that got you?" Enid asked.

"I have a right to my secrets. I will not be telling any of you my secrets." Y/n said as she stood up and wiped herself off.

"But, Y/n--" Enid was cut off.

"No! I don't want to talk about it. It's my secret to keep." Y/n said.

"Well it doesn't matter what it was! As long as you're safe, I'm happy." KO said as he wrapped an arm around Y/n. She laughed and blushed slightly.

"All right, we've taken care of all that. Let's get back to work." Mr. Gar said as if they had never played the nightmare inducing game.

He walked out of the arcade, the others following. As they walked, KO intertwined his fingers with Y/n's. She looked at him and smiled.

Maybe she did have a small crush on KO.
