Chapter Sixteen

Y/n woke up the next morning to find herself in the arms of KO, who was sound asleep. She wiggled out of his grip and stood up. She grabbed her hoodie and slipped it on, and walked into the living room. She saw Carol standing in the kitchen, making breakfast.

"Hey, kiddo!" She smiled at Y/n. Y/n waved at Carol and sat on the couch. "Is KO up yet?"

"No, he's still asleep." Y/n said. She figured that Tko's little visit probably drained him of energy.

"Huh. He's usually up around this time..." Carol mumbled as she frowned. She shrugged and placed the food she cooked on a plate. She walked over to Y/n and handed it to her. "Here's your breakfast. I'll go wake him up." She said. Y/n nodded. Carol turned and walked into the next room, leaving Y/n alone.

She came out a few moments later with KO up, mustering up as much energy as possible. He sat down next to Y/n, and sleepily leaned his head on her shoulder.

"KO, time to get up. I made you some breakfast." Carol said as she handed him a plate of food. He opened one eye slightly, grabbed the plate and set it on his lap, and closed his eyes again. Carol frowned, confused. "What's the matter, Peanut? You sick? Do you not feel good?"

"I'm okay... Just tired..." KO muttered. Carol sighed.

"Okay... You've gotta get up for work, though. C'mon. I'll help you get ready." Carol said as she grabbed the plate from him and helped him up. They walked away, going to get ready.

Y/n looked down at her food and sighed. She has to confront KO somehow or another without it being too awkward. He already thought she hated him now, what would he think when she suddenly confessed her feelings to him?

She shook away her thoughts. She had to do. She was going to do it.

'Nope, I can't do it. What if he hates me after I say it? What if Tko stops liking me? What if they both hate me?' She thought, overthinking it.

Carol pulled into the parking lot and turned off the vehicle. KO opened the door and stepped onto the ground. He looked over at Y/n, who looked down at the ground, sweating nervously.

"Okay, you two, have a nice day!" Carol said as she waved, walking away. KO waved goodbye as he smiled weakly. He looked back at Y/n, who refused to look at him out of nervousness.

"Y/n...?" He mumbled, looking at her. Her eyes grew wide as she looked at him.

"Y-Yes?" She stuttered.

"I'm really sorry about what happened yesterday... I know it was a rough day for you..." KO said as he looked at the ground.

"It's okay... I understand why you said that yesterday..." Y/n said.

"I-It's not what you think. Let me explain--" KO was cut off by Y/n.

"Tko came and visited me last night. He explained everything. I-I know you like me..." Y/n mumbled as she rubbed her arm. KO frowned.

"Oh... I-I'm really sor--" KO was cut off again as Y/n hugged him tightly. He tensed up, surprised.

"I like you, too." She muttered as she squeezed her eyes shut, hugging him. KO smiled, relaxing as he melted into her hug.

"So then we're cool? N-Not like a couple but--" KO blushed. Y/n playfully punched his shoulder.

"We're cool. C'mon, we gotta get to work." Y/n said as she grabbed his hand and led him inside.

"I've got a level 10 holographic version of the Chip Damage POW Card." KO said as he showed his friend Dendy a POW Card.

"Wow, KO, your collection is quite extensive." Dendy said as she smiled at him.

"Thanks. I've been collecting them my whole life. I even have my own!" He said as he pulled his POW Card out of his headband. He handed it to Dendy. "Once you do something heroic and cool, you'll have your own POW Card."

"Actually, KO, I'll never have my own POW Card." Dendy said.

"What?!" KO exclaimed.

"I am unable to receive a POW Card because I am a Kappa." Dendy said.

"What's that? I mean, what's you?" KO asked.

"Kappas are a species of semi-aquatic people." Dendy said as she explained what they were through a small story. She led KO to the POW Card machine. "Observe." She said as she pressed the scan button. It said: Error! No Kappas.

"But... You're not a monster!" KO exclaimed.

"Correct. Although, I do eat a lot of fish heads." Dendy said.

"How can I keep collecting these cards when they exclude one of my friends?" KO said as he looked inside the machine.

"It's true. POW Cards are morally... Wrong." Dendy said.

"Exactly, Dendy! POW Cards are wrong!" KO said.

"Then the next course of action is clear! We should be going if this is what we plan to do." Dendy said. KO nodded and walked to the door, but Dendy stopped him. "Say... Does your friend collect POW Cards? Or even have one?" She asked as she looked into the machine.

"Y/n? No. Why?" KO asked, confused.

"It's just that I've never seen her fight. And now that POW Cards are brought up, I was wondering, does she even have a level?" Dendy explained.

"I don't know. Now that I think about it, I don't know a lot about her at all..." KO said as he began thinking about all the stuff he didn't know about Y/n.

"Hm. Maybe we can learn more about her after we return. Come along, KO. We'll want to get to the volcano before dark." Dendy said as she opened the door and walked out. KO nodded and followed, and they made their way off to the volcano to destroy their POW Cards.
