— Later that night —

God. "That really was a disaster." I laugh resting my chin on my arm while is leaning against the bathtub. Not exactly where I thought I wood be on my wedding night. "It really wasn't." Kitty assures as she sips her Diet Coke from a wine glass. She can't have alcohol because of her chemo tablet things.

"My sister puked on your bridesmaids...then went into labour before we could sign our wedding certificate." With that Kitty makes a snort sound. "At least we're married." I nod my head. I guess she's right. "And anyway your niece is the most beautiful baby I've ever seen." Of course Kitty after our wedding reception went missing. I then got a FaceTime call from her saying she's at the hospital whilst holding my new niece. Luckily her dad dropped me off at the hospital. We spent a few hours there to support Syd, she was...like a psycho. She's terrified of being a single mother, but she's in love with her baby.

I've never seen Syd in all of my life act so mature.

"She upstaged you on your wedding day." I remind her as Kitty rolls her eyes back. "Think about it" — Kitty puts the glass down on the side as she lays back in the warm bubbly bath — "think about Hunters wedding. I was jealous...and I know for sure Syd wasn't. She was so apologetic in the hospital Dan. None of this was intended and that's why it doesn't bother me. Anyway if I had to be upstaged by anyone little Millie is definitely the girl. I'm an aunt and technically have been since she was born." I mean that's true. With that I smile nodding my head.

"The only thing I regret is being fucking ill. Being so worn out by doing nothing that I can't even...give you what other ladies do on their wedding nights..." I shake my head. "Kitty stop. This is perfect okay." She smiles before sighing. "Watching over me in the bath because I'm so tired and weak I might drown...on our wedding night is perfection?" I shake my head. "You know what I mean Kit" With that she closes her eyes and briskly nods her head. "I know...I just like putting things into perspective." Kitty Hol-Kitty Smith is a realist. A pessimist and a realist...the perfect couple.

"What you did today was sweet. Not taking any wedding pictures of family or friends...but because it felt wrong with Syd not being there." Kitty smiles and nods her head. "It's true...how can it be a family photo is Syd and Millie are missing. I'm not having that at all. Anyway, we got loads of selfies and photos before the ceremony. Plus a few of us on that fancy balcony. I'm so gonna post that all over social media!" I shake my head as she nod hers, revealing the most beautiful wide smile I've ever seen her do. "I like today...thank you for being part of the cause." With that I laugh. I mean...today has been a train wreck, sure, but it was good in the end. We're married, we survived and plus we have a niece. I mean...we somehow benefited from today...than we lost a couple of thousand on cleaning bills and lost time.

With that I take her hand and hold it gently, "Dan..." Kitty says in a light voice. "Yeah..." I make my voice trail off too as we both laugh. "When I get better...I want my own baby." I close my eyes and look the other way. "Just holding Millie in my arms, it felt good...seeing her was...I do my know. I expecting something different...I think Syd was too. Everyone cursed Syd for getting pregnant but the outcome is a little baby. I'd give my life up for Millie and she isn't even mine." I nod my head and smile. "Yeah babe..." I just nod my head because I don't know what to do or say. Kitty means it, tears fill up her eyes. But before she can shed a tear she stops. "I mean it. As soon as I even get a whiff that this thing inside me is finally gone we're trying. I want to be a mom. I deserve to be a mom."

Oh fuck she really means it.

"Okay" I whisper again as she goes back to closing her eyes. "I'm fed up of loosing all the time." With that I smile. With everything she's been through she's managed to keep her personality...her dignity...she's kept herself.

"I think I've married a fucking legend." With that Kitty laughs, as she does the water splashed against the side and the cliché candle jitter, but they don't fall. Thankfully. "Of course you married a fucking legend" — Kitty picks up her coke again — "I wouldn't have it any other way." With that I lean over the bath  and kiss her.

Kitty is the best wife in the world, it hasn't even been a day since we got married but I know it. Sometimes telling me that she'll forever be the best wife. I've just got to be the best husband.
