— A few weeks later —
Kitty's older brother has just returned home from being in a literal war zone. He came home not because of his 'injury' but because of his wedding in a couple of weeks. Either way Kitty is very excited to even be in his presence, it makes me feel bad because of Sydney. Instead of excusing myself to go to the toilet and texting her a long winded apology for not coming home...I suck up their sibling love feeling almost jealous.
It's too late to say sorry to Syd. And I hate not being able to text her, because right now I need girl advice. I need to know what makes girls happy in a innocent way...I mean I know what makes Kitty happy but I don't want to give her those things. Otherwise she'll think that I'm a creep that I know she loves Nutella...
"Have you got your bridesmaids dress?" Her brother, Hunter, asks whilst Kitty cracks a devious smile and slightly tilts her head forwards. "Wait what?!" Hunters fiancée, who sits besides him, hisses looking almost through Kitty like she is nothing. I can tell why Kitty hates her. Unlike the family — of what I've seen so far — Hunter's soon-to-be-bride, Alice, is a complete and utter snob. She's up incredibly herself. I've noticed that Alice has even looked at me up and down a few times...I should tell her that my parents are well to do people, but I think I'll save my breath. It doesn't deserve to be wasted on a snotty bitch.
"Yes actually." Kitty leans back on her dinner chair holding her glass of white wine tightly. I bite my lip and look the other way. The tension in this room right now is so high that...I think everyone feels awkward. A few times me and Hunter smile at each other to prove there's no bad blood or whatever...even a reassurance smile. He seems like a good guy.
"B-but...I told you specifically that you can wear that brown dress?" Brown dress to a wedding?! This isn't the seventies! You can't wear...that. Not in this day and age. Kitty smiles, a pearly white smile where her teeth are gritted together. I've never seen her act this way, even her parents put their hands on their heads in shame like they know what she's like. "Why didn't you make me a main bridesmaid? None of the other bridesmaids wear brown?! I want to be a proper bridesmaid." Kitty adds looking at her brother more than posh Alice. Hunter looks away, "just do as Ali says...please Kit..." he almost begs.
I on the other hand look down at my empty dessert plate. Meeting the Holland's was nothing like I suspected. Her father knows me and obviously we actually get along. Her mother is sweet and so is Hunter. I'm being welcomed into their family, I mean of course I feel totally out of place — but it feels right.
"Fine." She smiles again. This time she gulps down the remaining of her wine in one go and then very unladylike Kitty wipes her mouth with the back of her hand. Alice mumbles something looking horrified but I want to laugh, I mean...this is pathetic. Alice is clearly leaving Kitty out of her own wedding. "So Dan..." Hunter tries to make conversation as his voice trails off looking at Alice in a almost pissed off way.
They don't seem like a happy couple. I don't think I've seen them even talk to each other, let alone act like an engaged couple...they're just so different. I wonder what Hunter see's in her? Does he see the same thing I see in Kitty? Probably not. Alice is a fucking bitch.
"Are you coming to our wedding?" My eyes widen for a second as everyone laughs at my fave. My face is like an open book...I guess 'shock' is imprinted on it. "I didn't know I was invited" with that Hunter smiles.
"You can take my adorable little sister. You two are close so...here's your official invite. We don't want you sneaking in for Kitty." I mean...I wouldn't sneak in the wedding if I wasn't invited. I think Kitty would be on the phone to me every other second...especially with this...'revenge' dress. She definitely needs me there for support.
"Thanks...I think..." my voice trails off as Kitty's mother stands up after collecting her plate. "Enough about the wedding for one day!" With that Alice rolls her eyes. The only thing she talks about is this huge lavish wedding. It sounds expensive. "Hard to do when my bachelor party is coming up." Hunter jokes. I think only the guys in the room — including myself — crack a perverted smile. I mean...if I ever get married...I probably wouldn't do one. I know that I'll most likely get myself into trouble with my future Mrs.
"Why don't you invite Dan here. You're legal drinking age?" Ohmygodno. "Legal everything..." I nervously laugh as I feel Kitty's foot treading down on my shoe. What is she trying to say? Hunter looks at his dad and shrugs. "The more the merrier, what do you say Dan?" I have to look at Dan for a second. I mean...it's not hard to do because she's sitting besides her brother within view. It's almost like I automatically zoom in on her pale face. She slightly nods her head, I feel her patting down on my foot like she's banging a drum or whatever.
"S-sure..." I awkwardly stutter. With that Kitty gives me a big red smile from across of the table. "To new friends!" Kitty's father toasts whilst Kitty's mother collects the plates. I think I'm going to go and help her...
