Dian

It's been a God damn horrible week and finally it was coming to an end. Today is Friday so that means tomorrow is Saturday and I don't have to come to school, but that also means I have an unprepared speech. I've never been a fan of speaking in public and at this point I just genuinely don't like speaking, whether it's in public or not.

It was during during the second break at school and my friends and I were sitting outside by the school pavilion. Since the second break is shorter than the first we were all just chilling and listening to some music and they were all making jokes.

I tried sitting at the far end of the pavilion in order to isolate myself but Pete was having none of that, he decided to join me and the entire group followed suite, so I was stuck in the middle of all this suffocating clamour.

As if it couldn't get any worse Andrea showed up, luckily she didn't do anything too dramatic she just gave me a peck on the cheek and sat down next to me, so I was sitting in between both Andrea and Pete. Talk about awkward.

The conversation in the group steered to Nicki Minaj versus Cardi B ,and I really didn't care.

So I excused myself but I could hear the whispers as I was descending the pavilion.

"Shame poor thing."

"I wonder why he's isolating himself."

"He just probably needs time."

"I feel so sorry for him,I can't imagine losing my dad."

"I wonder if he'll ever get back to his old self."

I tried to ignore all their poor attempts of whispering, I didn't need their pity.

Just as I was about to reach the last step I felt a hand on my shoulder,I turned around to see Pete. "Where are you going, man?"

"Library."

"Mind if I join you, the group is getting too chatty for my liking." I know he is lying,he likes to be the center of attention,he's that incredibly loud annoying friend that makes jokes at serious times, but you can't help but keep around. So I just shrugged and we both walked to the library.

We walked into the library,it was really big and spacious with tall bookshelves full of various books. Right next to the door sitting by a huge desk was Miss Patty, she was the school librarian, she's a very sweet lady always so helpful.

"Hey, pretty Patty!" Pete greeted loudly clearly knowing it would annoy her.

"Pete, you do realize this is a library so you better keep your voice down." She chastised him.

"But I'm just saying hi to a pretty lady." Miss Patty was pretty especially for a woman in her early forties, she's always so full of life. Her desk is full of various flowers and pictures of her two daughters. She was friends with my mom but apparently something went wrong and they haven't spoken to each other in while.

"Dian, how are you doing sweetie?" She asked gently.

"Okay." I couldn't say good because that would be a lie,but I didn't say bad either because I didn't want to cause them concern.

"It's good to see you back at school, you're looking better." She came to see me a couple of times when I was in the hospital, I appreciated her visits and all the flowers she brought me. It was good to see despite the tension between she and my mother, she cared about my well being.

I nodded. "Well let me not keep you boys. It's good to see you Dian. Pete you better keep your noise levels down." She warned him. He just blew her a kiss and followed as I walked to the back of the library.
