Naledi

I had a few things to do today. I had to call the school and inform them about the protest, even though it was plastered all over the news.

The protest had luckily simmered down by the second day and I had gotten a chance to go to the police station to get some documents to verify the protest and get permission to write the exams.

Yesterday was chaotic and the remnants of the burnt tyres and stones laying in the middle of the streets were evidence. The wind was super chilly and I could feel goosebumps pop up on my skin the moment I opened the door.

I ran back inside and grabbed a jacket and walked to the police station.

On my way there I ran into Pontsho she is what we call a gossip mongrel. Nothing in the township happens that she doesn't know about and that just makes her ten times more annoying because she is the one person who is always spreading rumours about me.

"Well, well, well. If it isn't Naledi, I saw you on the news yesterday. I could hear the English coming out of your nose but eh, you looked like you hadn't taken a bath in years, especially with your hair, looking like a mutt."

"Anything new Pontsho, because I have places to be." She had intercepted my path and was standing right in front of me with her arms crossed. She was a lot like Palesa, she had a bright yellow-brown colour to her skin with large round eyes and pale pink lips the few differences being, she had short hair and was less curvy. She also liked men and she also liked money, but she preferred dick over money. Whereas Palesa preferred money over dick.

"Oh, nothing besides the fact that I heard Fish is sleeping with some White guy." She said smugly.

I tried to hide the surprise in my face, but I guess I didn't do such a great job at it because she smirked at my surprise.

I didn't think that they were sleeping together, I mean I knew they were flirting and kissing but Johan always preached about getting the right guy and all that jazz. I guess I didn't know him anymore, or maybe Fish was the right guy, I just don't know.

"So what, are you jealous that Fish left you for someone with a dick?" I replied just as smugly.

She faltered just for a second but then the smile danced on her face again. "Well, Fish is a boy and not a man, and the boy is so dense he doesn't know the difference between an ass and a pussy." Her ego must have been bruised real bad, losing a guy like Fish to a white boy. Fish had the status, he was the most popular guy at his school and in the township. He didn't attend a township school but a model C school, he was a trouble maker but he was really smart too.

"Waitsi, I don't have time for this." I moved around her, "bye."

"Oh, did you hear that your friend is screwing KG." That stopped me in my tracks.

Palesa that bitch. Is that her way of getting back at me, by sleeping with KG, he's like a brother to me.

"What?"

"Yeah, people have been seeing that Caster Semenya ridding in the front seat of KG's golf with his tongue down her throat."

"Caster?" I was confused.

"Are you really that dense? I'm talking about Buhle." I sucked in some air.

KG and Buhle. Together. That's just a lot to process.

"Arg, whatever. Are you really that pathetic, to start rumours about KG, now. Is it because he turned you down. Your pussy must be losing its magic, I mean first Fish leaves you for a guy, then KG turns you down for Buhle. Tsk tsk tsk I pity you." The tone in my voice was condescending, she was pissing me off and if it wasn't for the fact that the police station was around the corner, I would have smacked her. Buhle is my best friend and KG is like a brother to me, she wouldn't do that. Even if she did, I believe she would have the guts to tell me straight up.
