My phone rang, pulling me out of my stupor. I looked at the caller ID. Madi popped up on the screen along with the picture of us. I hit the green button.

"Hey, Madi, what's up." I smiled.

"Are you wanting to go to the fight between Sammy and Taylor?" Madi asked.

"Yeah, can you pick me up?" I nodded.

"Yeah, I'm outside your house now." Madi answered.

"Give me five minutes if I'm not out by then leave without me." I instructed her.

"Bye." The line clicked telling me that Madi hung up.

I put my phone down and pulled on a hoodie over my push-up bra. I brushed the crumbs from my sandwich off my jeans. I quickly braided my hair.

Shoving my phone into my pocket I left my room and went to the game room.

"Dad, I'm heading out with Madi. She'll bring me home." I told my father.

"Okay, be safe." Dad answered, studying his hand of cards.

I left the game room and went downstairs. I pulled on a pair of boots. I walked out the front door and my breathe was taken away by the cold air.

I shoved my hands into my pocket and wrapped them around my phone as I headed to Madi's yellow Subaru.

I opened the passenger side door and got in. I slammed the door closed behind me. The heat felt good after my short walk from the house to the car.

It was only autumn but the temperature was in the lower thirties.

"Why are you only in a hoodie and jeans? It's thirty-one degrees outside." Madi glanced at me.

"I didn't check the weather. Plus the hoodie is fleece-lined." I answered.

"You know Hadley will chew you out for wearing that." Madi said pulling out onto the street.

"And what about you?" I pointed out.

She was wearing a green running jacket that was only half zipped to show her green tank top. She had on a pair of ripped jeans, underneath which was  a pair of fishnet leggings. I knew instinctually that she had on a pair of running shoes.

"I already know what Hadley will say to me." Madi replied.

Hadley was like a mother to us. She obsessed over how we dressed in winter. Always making sure we never overexerted ourselves. It was because Madi and I were they youngest in the fight club.

Really, the only reason Madi was in the club was because of her father being Ace.

"Hey, Madi, do you think I'm overly violent?" I asked.

"No, during your fights is the only time I see you being violent. Even then you're more collected and put together than most of the fighter. I think that's what makes you such a great fighter." Madi answered, thoughtfully.

We rode the rest of the way in silence. When we got there Hadley was standing outside the warehouse smoking a cigarette. She was wearing a tank top that showed off her tattooed arms and a pair off black leggings. Her long green hair was tied up in a bun.

"You ready for the protective mothering of our second mom?" Madi asked, jokingly.

"Are you?" I returned.

We giggled before getting out of the warm car and into the freezing air.

Hadley was already walking our way. She had put out her cigarette.

"What has got into you girls? Wearing such light clothes on such a cold day, hurry up and get inside." Hadley exclaimed.

"Yes, we'll get right on that." Madi's voice was laced with sarcasm.

"Madi" I gave her a pointed look.

We all three went inside. The warm air felt nice after the brutal cold. The members were congregating. There hasn't been a fight in a month.

Soon the fight started. It lasted for twenty minutes. Sammy won. Hadley, Madi, and I all three knew Sammy would win.

Sammy was small and agile. He packed a lot of muscle and could slip past most defenses. Taylor was burly and slow moving. But, he could knock people out with a single punch if he could land the punch.

After the fight was over we left.

"Madi, why did you leave during my fight with Zackery?" I asked.

"I got a call from my mom. She wanted me home as soon as possible. I knew by the tone in her voice that mom was upset so I couldn't argue with her." Madi answered staring straight ahead at the street. "Mom and dad are divorcing. I'm moving out of town with my mom."

"But, won't you finish the school year, I mean it's your senior year?" I asked.

"I'm leaving during winter break. The school already knows about it. Hadley knows about my situation." Madi answered. "I'm leaving the fight club for a while. Just until I can move back here."

"What are you going to do after high school?" I asked.

"I wanna go to a trade school in the town I'm moving to. What about you, have you figured out what you're doing with that excellent brain of yours?" Madi glanced at me before turning onto a side road.

"I want to go to an ivy league college and have a master's degree in psychology." I answered.

"Well, good luck. Ivy league colleges are damn near impossible to get into." Madi smiled at me.

"When will I see you again?" I asked.

Winter break was in two months. We never saw each other at school.

"You have my number, we can video chat. That's why the phone was invented. It's not like I'm moving to China. Although china would be nice." Madi added the last bit jokingly.

"No way, Japan is the best." I smiled.

"I'm fighting on Saturday. You'll see me then. Ask your dad if you can hang out with me on Saturday." Madi said, pulling into my driveway. "and, hey, don't freeze. Hadley would have my hide if you did."

A/N~ Opsies, it's already three in the afternoon. Sleep is good. I had a lot of other things on my mind this morning. And even though I had the whole chapter outlined by second hour yesterday I didn't write the chapter until now.

Anyways...
