And now it's back to me talking about movies I like that everyone else hates. But since it's still October, I'm going to talk about horror movies I like that everyone else hates. Horror movies come in very creative varieties. Such as found footage, the classic monster, psychological, and the most infamous, Slasher! Most say slasher films are a gratuitous generic dime a dozen horror film with clichés that are almost laughable. But some actually try to do something fresh and original, tapping into supernatural elements, or maybe some self-aware humor, knowing how tired out the franchise may seem. I know I'm not the only one that considers some slasher movies a guilty pleasure. I have two favorite slasher villains. Freddy Krueger and Chucky. I own all the Nightmare On Elm Street films, except for the 2010 remake. Nightmare on Elm Street is quite innovative because it saved studio New Line Cinema from bankruptcy at the time, and it introduced us to Johnny Depp. But the less said about him right now, the better. I ain't addressing the elephant in the room. Anyway, I'm going to talk about the first slasher film I ever saw, Freddy vs. Jason! A film that was financially successful, but was given unfavorable reviews and holds a 41% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

I remember in my adolescence, like when I was 13, I was in my "dark and edgy" phase. Or, at least I was trying to be dark and edgy. I tried getting into horror films to be more grownup. Hilariously though, I remember Freddy vs. Jason being talked about a lot. I didn't realize it at the time, but it was what many would consider the most ambitious crossover at the time. I became interested in watching Freddy vs. Jason after watching this parody.

So, I watched it, and I loved it. It's my favorite slasher film. Because it was the first slasher film I ever saw, I didn't know how cliched and poorly written the main characters were. But I didn't care. The practical effects were well done, Freddy looked menacing. In fact, Robert Englund did a great job. He ended up becoming my favorite horror movie actor, and I always look forward to seeing him in TV shows and movies. Freddy vs. Jason is a lot better than the awful reboots produced by Michael Bay. I know, ironic. I'll defend his Ninja Turtles, but I'll bash his slasher reboots. Anyway, I like to watch this film every October. It's fun to watch. To show you some perspective on how flawed the film can be, here's Nostalgia Critic's review of the film. And funny enough, his review of Freddy vs. Jason was the first Nostalgia Critic review I ever watched. That's how I became a fan of Nostalgia Critic.
