Okay, so I'm more of a movie person obviously. Sometimes when I watch a movie, I'm surprised that it's based on a book. Example? Mrs. Doubtfire. Totally didn't know it was based on a book. But I'm not here to talk about Mrs. Doubtfire. Even though, coincidentally the director of Mrs. Doubtfire directed the film I'm about to talk about. Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief. Or Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief for short. The film was released on February 12, 2010. On a $95 million budget, the film grossed $226 million at the box office. However, the film received mixed reviews. Fans of the novel, to put it lightly, were not happy with how the movie deviated from the source material.
MyGirl_BCanary and other diehard Percy Jackson fans are probably going to hate me for this. But I never grew up on the Percy Jackson books. My sister, on the other hand, loves the books, and the expanded universe of Percy Jackson. So when I watched the trailer, that was my first introduction to Percy Jackson. Maybe as someone who has a higher form of Aspergers Syndrome, I could somewhat relate to Percy since he has ADHD. Autism and ADHD can be very similar in a way. What got me interested in seeing Percy Jackson? I was intrigued because of its take on Greek Mythology, and I'm totally into the Greek gods and goddesses. So yeah, I watched it with my family. I thought it was tons of fun. I liked Logan Lerman's portrayal of Percy. Though to be fair, Logan gives a much better performance in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I thought Grover was funny. The jokes made me laugh, and I thought the movie was as enjoyable as an Indiana Jones movie. I thought the film was a good kids film. Because I never read the books, I'm not really outraged by the many changes from the book. Yeah, it's different, but if it wasn't associated with the books, it'd make for a good popcorn flick. So yeah, Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief is definitely a guilty pleasure for me. Besides, it's better than the 2010 remake to Clash of the Titans.
