Chapter One - It's My Turn

I wake to loud banging and consistent cursing. I inwardly smile as I roll over and scan for her.

Sure enough, I find her hovering over her navy blue suitcase sprawled open on her bed. I watch as she continues to toss her things in with more force than necessary, cussing as she goes along.

"Amelia, will you stop." I say, chuckling as she jumps in fright and turns around to glare at me. "The poor suitcase did nothing to you."

"Oh shut up and start packing." She sends an icy glare in my direction before turning around and resuming her task.

I watch as her waist length platinum hair flies as if the air carassed it before settling down. I roll my eyes and get out of bed to brush my teeth and take a shower.

I don't want to think about today. Or any day after this one for that matter. Things most certainly were going to change.

I leave my dark brown hair to dry naturally as it doesn't do much else anyway and join Amelia in packing.

In between throwing my clothes carelessly into my suitcase I throw glances at her. When she begins to sniffle I mentally deflate.

I knew this was coming. Out of the two of us, she has always been the emotional one.

"It's going to be fine, Amelia." I sigh as I reassure her even though I know it's not.

She throws her suitcase closed and zips it up faster than should be possible for her delicate frame. "Nothings going to be fine Hailey. After this trip, we're going to be ripped apart. I'm never going to see you again! What's fine about that!" She whisper yells at me.

My eyes soften as I take in her distraught state. We're so different, the two of us. Yet she was the only one who didn't shun me. The only one who wasn't afraid of me. And so, an unlikely friendship formed.

"We'll figure something out, okay?" I say firmly. "Even if it means breaking the rules."

She looks at me then, trying to see if I'm being honest. Then she nods, releasing a deep breath. "Okay."

"Let's go, the others are probably already waiting." I send her a reassuring smile, knowing that once I leave this room, the cold is going to seep back into my veins and my hard exterior will surface.

We grab our suitcase and make our way downstairs, sending one last glance at the cream coloured room that has been ours for the past seven years.

Downstairs there is three others waiting for us. Including our Head Mistress.

"By time you got here, freak." Samantha says from the front. "After today, you're sickening friendship will be over and you'll go back to the hell you belong in."

I regard her coolly. My dark eyes running over her undead appearance. You guessed it. She's a vampire. Her pale green eyes and red hair made her stand out. She'd be gorgeous if she wasn't so rotten on the inside.

I roll my eyes at her and continue outside to where a car is waiting for us. Her words have stopped affecting me a long time ago.

I can feel Amelia fidgeting beside me so I glance over at her as we shove our suitcases in the trunk.

"Calm down." I tell her, not bothering to be polite. This whole damn day is unsettling enough. I really don't need more drama.

"Who does she think she is." Amelia grits out. "And what about Miss Black, just standing with a mouth full of fangs as Samantha talks to us like that?"
