Chapter Twenty One - Negotiation

To say I was avoiding Damien was an understatement. Now that it sunk in just how much of a fool I made of myself, I was absolutely horrified.

I only met the guy like yesterday and I was already throwing myself at him.

It really made me think about what the hell is wrong with me and my conclusion is?

Everything.

Everything is wrong with me.

Was it because I never got male attention during my time at the Academy and now that I was suddenly surrounded by all these striking guys, my traitorous body was acting up?

Whatever it was, it needed to end. Fast.

So, when Athena showed me to a room, I took a heavenly shower and passed out. I didn't know I was that exhausted until I hit the soft bed.

Now, however, I was awake and feeling extremely guilty.

How could I be thinking about guys and sleeping when Amelia was being tortured?

That strengthened my resolve. I was going to get her back, right now.

I quickly brushed my teeth, changed into the dark jeans and T-shirt Athena provided me with, then I was off.

First, I needed some food and a strong cup of coffee and ofcourse, a plan.

I couldn't possibly just demand he give her to me. I didn't know what he was playing at. Why would he even take her?

I bang my head against the counter of a cupboard in the kitchen before making coffee and grabbing a banana.

This is way too much for me. I'm supposed to be a regular Dark Fae, working for the Embassy with Amelia and Sierra by my side.

Sierra.

Oh no. I was horrible to her. She was just a kid. New to the world. How could she possibly understand?

I rest my head on the table. I've just been going around making a mess out of everything, haven't I?

I was selfish, thinking only about me and what I needed. What I wanted.

"You look like you're deep in thought."

I jump at the sound of his voice. Smooth and rich. He wasn't stupid, I don't doubt that he noticed I was avoiding him. Like the plague.

"Yeah." I say looking everywhere but him. "Look, Damien, I'm sorry for what happened on the plane."

"It's fine." He says. "To be honest, it was kind of hot."

He even throws me a wink and I shoot him a smile, knowing that he is playing it off for my sake.

"I have no idea what I'm doing." I lean my head back on the table. "Amelia has been the one constant in my life. Like, everything was okay as long as I had her. Now that she's not here, I feel like everything is spiralling out of my control. I can feel the bond we share slowly driving me insane. If anything happens to her, I don't what I'd do."

"We'll figure something out." He says.

"Hailey!" Athena comes running into the kitchen.

I immediately jerk up at the way she sounds. "What is it?"

"He's back." She heaves. "And he has Amelia."

Damien and I take off running after her. My mind screaming at me to keep it together but inside I was panicking.

We end up in the same spot he appeared the last time. Only the barrier isn't being bombarded.

I frown at Athena and she flicks her wrist, the barrier becoming clear.

"Amelia!" I gasp.

He is standing behind her with an arm around her waist and a sword at her neck.

Her blonde her is dirty and matted and she's bleeding from various places, I feel my eyes start to tear up.

"Now that I have your attention." He says. "I believe a negotiation is in order."

I wipe my tears and glare at him, noticing about fifteen of his offspring. Looking at then now, I can see the hollow looks in their eyes.

My eyes find Brett and my eyes turn black. He smirks smugly at me which only infuriates me more.

"You." I grit. "I'm going to kill you."

"Now, now, daughter." My father says mockingly. "Let's not be foolish. I'll give you the light fae girl if Athena takes down the barrier."

I notice the way he says light fae as if she's filth but don't comment. It's the same way they treated us, so how was he being any different? How was his tactics going to solve anything?

"You're crazy if you think I'm letting you in this place!" Athena screams at him and I realise for the first time how angry she must be at him. How much weight was put on her shoulders from a young age. How he ruined her life and mine. "I will not put my people in danger."

"Very well." He says, moving the sword.

"Wait!" I scream. "I'll do anything you want. I'll find a way to take down the barrier. Please, just give her to me."

"No, Hailey!" Amelia protests, tears running down her face. My heart breaks at how weak and rundown she looks.

"Shut up!" He shakes her a little and I glare at him.

"Well?" I ask impatiently, not being able to stand another minute of seeing Amelia in that position.

He regards me carefully for a moment then he shrugs. "Fine." He says, pushing Amelia forward.

She runs but before she makes it to the barrier a sword is pushed through her chest.

My eyes widen as the tip protrudes out the front, covered in blood. Her blood. Her eyes wide and mouth open in a silent scream.

I run to the barrier. "No!" I scream, tears running down my face. "Amelia!"

He pulls the sword out an Amelia drops to the floor, lifeless. I drop with her, staring helplessly at her body.

"You're a lying bitch." He tells me. "Just like your mother."

It feels as though my insides are being ripped apart so I scream and scream and scream.
