Chapter Twenty Seven - The Beginning

A week has passed since Amelia received the gift of life and the gift of wings, and I would not leave her side. To be honest, I think she was quite sick of me at this point.

I can't say that blame her.

Not only was I overjoyed at her being, you know, alive but, I was also avoiding Damien. Like the plague.

Ever since that day in my room, the images of him having me pressed up against the wall just would not leave my mind. So needless to say that everytime we made eye contact, I went beet red.

Yes, I was being a chicken. No, I did not care.

"So, what's going on between you and Damien?" Amelia asked casually.

I choked on my water.

"Nothing." I say once I've regained my composure, leaning casually against the kitchen counter.

"Okay." She shrugs, her eyes darting off to something behind me. "Oh look, here he comes now."

Oh shit. Oh shit. Oh shit.

My eyes widen as my mind tries to formulate possible ways to escape this situation.

Then, Amelia bursts out laughing

"Oh ha ha." My eyes narrow at her. "Very funny."

"That's what you get for lying to your bonded." She chuckles. "You should have seen your face."

"Fine."  I roll my eyes at her but smile nonetheless. "We sort of kissed, and now I'm avoiding him."

She tugs at her messy bun causing a few pale strands to fall free and studies me carefully. "Was it that bad?"

Oh no.

What if he thinks I am avoiding him because he is a bad kisser? Which he obviously is not.

"No. It was great, actually." I tell her.

"So why are you running from him then?" She asks and I lay my head on the cool counter top.

"I really like him." I confess. "And now that we've kissed I feel awkward about it. It don't want him to think I'm one of those girls, you know?"

"You mean the kind that has sex with no strings attached?" She asks.

I nod my head a little. "We never talked about how we feel about each other. We just kissed."

"And now you're afraid that he might not actually like you?" She concludes.

I don't answer her and I don't have to. She hit the nail on the head.

Maybe I am overreacting. I mean, he was the one to turn my down in the first place but then he kinda threw himself at me and I threw myself back at him. Heck. I don't know.

This crap should come with a manual.

"You know, if you just spoke to him you'd find out." She muttered.

"Nope." I told her walking to Athena's office. "I have Queen duties, remember. Besides, he's off training new warriors."

"I don't understand why let her take an entire month off." She says, following me out. "I still can't believe you're royalty."

I chuckle as we walk the long corridors. "It's the least I could do for her as I do not wanna be Queen. She deserves a month to travel and see the world."

"I guess." She shrugs and plops down on the couch in the corner of the room. "This Queen shit is boring though."

I sit down, looking through the stacks of complaints and I can't help agreeing with her. Why would anyone want to be Queen?

It is boring.

After fifteen minutes Amelia begins to fidget and I raise my eyebrow at her. "You do know you don't have to be here right?"

She shot me a withering glare and I laughed out loud. Her attention span was very limited.

"It not that I don't want to be here." She says and I shoot her a blank stare. I didnt even want to be here.

"Really?" I deadpan.

"I'm just restless." She confesses. "I wanna fly and train. You know, regular fae stuff."

I look at her knowingly because I felt the same. Like there was an itch in my back begging to be scratched. I needed to stretch my wings.

"Tell you what, you help me finish this and we'll go spread our wings - literally." I say.

I shake my head. Well, that got her up pretty quickly.

~~~
I didn't think we'd finish so soon but we breezed through it and Amelia was practically halfway out the door.
"Come on!" She yells, running through the corridors. "Slow poke!"
"Calm down!" I huff, struggling to keep up with her lithe, agile figure.
She laughs at my pain. "For a purebred angel you're not very impressive!"
My eyes narrow and I push my limbs, the ache in them already putting me off from doing any flying. "You're trying to kill me before we even get there!"
"You wouldn't be in this position if you upped your training." She throws over her shoulder. "I actually did die. So what's your excuse?"
I roll my eyes as we burst into the clearing, both of us panting and giggling. This, this is what life supposed to be like.
I glance around the forest noticing a few stray lights lingering in the flowers and trees even though the sun is out.
"You go ahead." I say watching her wings unfurl. "I'll join you in a minutes."
"Yeah, catch your breath grandma." She laughs before shooting off into the blue sky.
I watch her go, happy to have her back. Everyday I look at her, I feel immense gratitude. We both got really lucky.
"Took you long enough to leave the castle." A voice says from behind me.
I jump as I flat out glare at him. "You know, it's not very nice to creep up on people."
"I wouldn't have to creep if you weren't avoiding me." He counters. "Why is that by the way?"
My eyes drift over his shirtless form and he flexes his gorgeous wings. You see, the thing is I know that he asked me something but for the life of me I cannot remind what it is.
"Uhm, what?" I ask stupidly and I'm sure I would have face palmed myself if his grey eyes weren't pinning me down.
He chuckles at me and I go cherry red. I just keep making a fool of myself, don't I?
"Do you want to tell me why you've been avoiding me?" He asks slowly, walking closer and I blink.
What the hell was I supposed to him now that he was almost right infront of me?
"I just..." I trail off, getting lost in his endless stormy eyes. How gorgeous can one person be?
In less than a second he closes the distance between us and presses his lips to mine. I hold onto him greedily as I meet his demands.
He grips my waist tightly and pull me to him. It's in that moment that I realise how bloody stupid and childish I've been to avoid him the past couple of days.
"Finally!" Amelia hollers from somewhere above us. "I was wondering what took you so long!"
Damien and I smile against each other but down let go.
"Hold on to me." He says and I do.
Then, he shoots us into the sky, flying towards Amelia and I know, this is just the beginning.
For all of us.
THE END.
