Chapter Nineteen - No
"So that was your mate." He says as we walk through the trees.
"Yip." I say. "It would seem that the universe is out to get me."
Damien chuckles and I notice that it is deep and rich. "I doubt it." He says. "Sometimes we have to go through things to learn."
I shoot him a look. "What could I possibly learn from that?"
"You're telling me that you've not learnt anything from your experience with him?" He raises an eyebrow at me.
I remain quiet. Alexander was a lesson for me.
"So you have." He puts his hands behind his back and I notice the strain it puts on his shirt.
I immediately find a tree to inspect.
"How did you get your wings?" I ask him. When he doesn't reply, I frown. "You don't have to have to answer. I didn't mean to pry."
"It's not that." He says. "It's a rather uncomfortable story."
I nod. "So you earned them then."
He smiles but it's a bitter one. "It was almost five years ago. Your father finally got one of his spawns to enter the Dark Fae Lands. He almost killed Athena, but I jumped between them. The blade just missed my heart and any important arteries."
I grimace. "I'm sorry."
"It's fine." He says. "I got my wings and I've been more useful since then."
"So you and my sister are close then?" I ask him.
He furrows his brows and I blush at the way it must have come across.
"I didn't mean it like that." I say. "She just seems to trust you alot. You've been a warrior for a long time."
He nods. "We are pretty close."
I nod but say nothing else as the house comes into view. I also realise that I did mean it in the way my stupid mouth had asked it.
Conclusion? Fuck these males.
Sierra comes running out straight into my arms. "Hey kid." I ruffle her hair.
"Hey, I'm not a kid." She glares playfully.
"Sure. Sure." I tell her. "Where's Amelia?"
"She isn't with you?" Sierra asks. "She said she was going to wait by the airstrip."
I look at Damien.
"You don't think...?" He asks.
My eyes immediately go black and he steps back slightly.
"Where the fuck is Alexander?!" I exclaim.
As if on cue, he breaks through the trees behind us. I grab him by the throat. "Where is Amelia?" I ask him.
He goes white. "I-I."
"Speak, Alexander!" I spit.
My insides start to twist and knot.
"I don't know!" He pushes away from me.
"Sierra said she was going to meet me at the airstrip but you were the only one there." I watch him. "Where the fuck is she?"
"I told you I don't know." He tells me. "You're crazy."
I turn to Damien. "Can you circle the area?"
He nods, flexing his shoulders wings bursting forth and shoots into the sky.
"What?" Both Sierra and Alexander say.
