Chapter Two - I Hate Plane Rides.
Ever since Samantha showed up about ten years ago, it was obvious Miss Black favoured her. Maybe it was because the entire vampire race believed in their nonexistent souls that they're superior so they stick together. We all noticed it but we didn't particularly care. After all, Miss Black was not our mother. It was just the crap Samantha got away with that irritated us.
"Are you excited?" I heard Miss Black ask her as we settled into our seats. "I've already told Vladimir all about you. They can't wait for you to arrive."
Amelia and I share a glance which clearly said 'oh here we go'.
"Yes, ofcourse." Samantha gushed. "I know I'll do great. Unlike some people."
Please don't let her talk to me. Please don't let her talk to me. Please don't let her talk to me.
"Hailey." She calls out.
Ah crap.
I turn around to look at her. "Yes Samantha?"
"Do you really think the dark fae are going to accept you?" She feigned concern. "I mean, surely they can't be bothered with fae who can't and won't use their magic."
"Who knows." I shrug and turn back around, not at all bothered by her pretence.
"Do you even have any magic?" She sneers.
"That is no business of yours." I roll my eyes and close them as I ignore her, hoping to get some sleep before we land.
"Oh but everything is my business." She says.
I sigh as I wonder when the hell she plans to shut up but then I hear her go to say something and I freeze.
"Silent treatment huh?" She laughs. "What about your pale friend over there? What do you suppose the Light Fae will say when they find out she's befriended a Dark Fae? How will they treat her then?"
It's Amelia's sharp intake of breath that shakes me out of my stupor.
How could I have over looked that? How could I have not taken that into consideration? I don't know the Fae rules and regulations about that but the way Samantha said it made my blood boil. She's threatening me.
Suddenly I feel the darkness running through my veins. Anger and panic floods my system making my head spin as I try to shove it down.
I grip the armrest of the seat but suddenly it feels so flimsy beneath me.
"Hailey, are you okay?" Amelia whispers making my head snap to her. Her eyes widen and she gulps.
"Yeah Hailey, are you okay?" Comes Samantha's mocking voice.
Before Amelia can stop me I'm out of my seat, causing the seat belt to snap, and in Samantha's face.
She blinks in shock, her face losing what little colour it had which is weird for someone who's already deathly pale. If I wasn't so furious I'd laugh loudly at her. Instead, I send her a slow smirk, watching as she fidgets.
"Y-Your eyes?" She stutters. "I-I don't understand."
I laugh as she fumbles for her words, the darkness in my body threatening to overthrow me. She's never seen me use my magic before, so to her I am probably similar in strength to a human. This must be shocking for her.
"My patience has gone thin with you thinking you're so fucking smart." I drag. "Just because I tolerate your ignorance, immaturity and insults does not mean anyone gets to threaten Amelia."
"I-"
"You remember when the previous Academy burnt down not long after you arrived, Samantha?" I cut her off. "Did you really think that my eleven year old self stood there with some gasoline and bad intentions trying to work a lighter?"
As it dawns on her that I'm the one who burnt down the Academy, I laugh though it really is no joke. Ever since that day I made a vow to never use my magic again. It was unpredictable at best.
"Sit down Hailey!" Comes Miss Black's voice.
I glare at her. "Shut up you old hag!"
I look back at Samantha as Miss Black's hand come to slap me but I catch it. Watching in amusement as fear grows in Samantha.
"Now you're getting it." I grin at them both, shoving Miss Black's hand back. "You vampires may not burn in sunlight. But you can still burn. Anyone so much as touch a blonde hair on Amelia's head, and I'll make sure you die for real this time."
I go back to my seat, holding out my palm to Amelia. I watch as her hair begins to float ever so slightly. A light glow starts to illuminate her hand as she connects it with mine. I instantly relax as my magic calms down and recedes.
"You good?" She asks.
"Well, are my eyes still black?" I turn to look at her then wondering what the fuck I'm going to do when she's not around anymore.
"Nope." She says watching me intently.
"Then I'm good." I tell her. "Thanks."
"No problem. Atleast you didn't kill anybody." She chuckles.
I glare at her then, knowing it could have gone that far, but then I laugh too because it's nice to see her laughing today. "Whatever."
"Rest." Amelia whispers still lightly chuckling. "I'll wake you up."
I nod as I relax into my seat, hoping that I don't fall out as the use of seat belt is no longer possible . "I was sceptical of leaving, now I can't wait to be away from this shit."
Then I fall into the black abyss and relish in the darkness of my dream.
I hate plane rides.
