Chapter Six - Evan's Gift

When I woke up I noticed two things.

1. I was back on the plane and,

2. I felt hollow on the inside.

"Hey." Comes a smooth voice from besides me.

I glance over and see Alexander staring at me with a weird expression. He looks almost worried.

"Hi." I say back, noticing how empty the words sound to my ears. "Where are we going next?"

"We're going to the Supernatural Embassy." He says stiffly.

I glance at him closely and I can tell he has thought about it furiously. "I'm glad you made that decision." I try to smile but it feels fake.

He rubs the back of his neck sheepishly, looking almost embrassed so I throw him a look which said spill.

"After seeing you and Amelia today I realised that there are some things in life worth fighting for, even if it means sacrificing everything. Have you guys always been so intense?" He says, looking unsure of how I'd react but I just nod in confirmation.

I look away then, remembering all the crap Amelia and I endured together. How they used to make fun of me for being so long at The Academy and of her for having such peculiar features. Then I remember him. We were always close but it wasn't until he came along that we really stuck together.

"I'm sorry." He says. "I didn't mean to pry."

"It's fine." I smile at him. "Amelia and I, we went through alot of shit together and we somehow always managed to pull each other through. She's my family."

He nods in understanding and I take a better look at his gorgeous features.

"You haven't been at The Academy for very long, have you?" I ask him, certain I would have seen him atleast once.

He grins at me then. "I arrived about two weeks ago. I was actually kicked out from the other Academy because of my behaviour."

I chuckle at him. "Well, you do seem the type."

He laughs then, full and melodious. I try not to stare. "I'd be offended if it wasn't true."

I smile and shrug, frowning when I don't feel the familiar pain in my shoulder.

"What is it?" Alexander asks me.

"My shoulder." I tell him. "It doesn't hurt."

"Evan's doings." Miss Black speaks up. "He healed you as a thanks for stepping between him and the orbs. He also granted you a gift. He said you'd know what it was when the time came."

"It's surprising he'd do anything for me." My frown deepens. "His dislike for Dark Fae was pretty obvious."

Miss Black says nothing so I turn back to Alexander trying to distract myself from the icy feeling that seemed to be creeping in my veins. "So how old were you when you were dropped at the Academy?"

"I was almost six." He says nonchalantly. "I don't remember much of anything but apparently I was only good enough to be kept around till that age."

He doesn't seem to be very cut up about it, but I can tell he definitely remembers something and he is still pissed off about it. I mean, at that age you're bound to remember a few things like having the love of a family. Something that I know nothing of.

"I've been there since I was almost a year." I say. "So I don't miss having parents because I've never had them. I guess I wasn't good enough to be kept around at all."

"I'm sorry." He says.

But I shake my head. I've never spent my life wishing for my parents to realise their mistake and come get me, or to be adopted. From a young age I accepted the way things were and worked with what I had. Sure, a part of me despised my parents. They shouldn't have opened their legs if they didn't want a kid. I mean, what did they think they were going to get? Apples? Because of them I lived a life of constant bullying and being told I wasn't good enough. And I survived. I met Amelia. I can stand up for myself. So what good were they anyway? "It's fine. I don't really care."

And I meant it.

"Have you have you ever gotten adopted?" He asks.

"Nope. People realise I'm a Dark Fae and they don't want the hassle." I say. "How about you?"

"Yeah." He says chuckling. "Ten times to be exact."

My eyes widen. "You can't be that problematic."

"I thought that was the case too until my last foster family." He grins widely. "Apparently I have a dominant wolf which means..."

"That you do well with giving orders and not taking them." I finish for him. "And that's why you wanted the Beta position."

It all makes sense now, how I never noticed him on the plane because his wolf was quiet and observant as most dominant wolves are when they're in new territory. They're intelligent wolves, more suited to running a pack rather than being in it.

Now I understand why he was so pissed off at not fighting Jace back. His wolf's ego took a knock at being suppressed.

"Yeah." Is all he says. I can tell he's going over the events that just unfolded in his mind so I leave him alone.

As the plane makes a sudden jerk as it prepares to land I find myself clutching Alexander's forearm in fright. I was so deep in thought I wasn't paying attention.

As soon as make contact with his skin though, I discover Evan's gift.

My eyes roll to the back of my head and I start convulsing. I immediately feel Alexander's hands on me trying to figure out what the problem is but it's too late, I'm already slipping under the waves of a vision.

~~~
When I come to the plane has already landed. I open my eyes to see Alexander above me with a glass of water, the memory of the vision flashing vividly in my brain.
I immediately push him out of the way and rush to the bathroom before puking my guts out.
I quickly grab my toothbrush out of the bag I kept dangling over the seat and brushed my teeth.
"You okay?" He asks, handing me the glass of water as I stare at him.
"Yeah." I say gulping it down but still feeling a bit queasy. "Alexander, there's something I need-"
"Come on." Miss Black says walking into the plane. Honestly, I didn't even know she was gone. I swear this lady has the worst timing ever.
"I've requested a meeting with the Circle of Four. They will hear your case and make a decision." She says before turning around and leaving. We glance at each other and follow after her.
I make sure to grab my phone on the way out, hoping this goes in Alexander's favour.
