Chapter Eight - The Bond

"We need to leave!" The frantic voice comes from the werewolf woman.

"No! Don't touch her!" Miss Black's voice comes as I stand deathly still as I try to calm myself down. "You don't understand, there's not enough time to run. If we don't get Amelia here, she'll explode, and she'll take the whole building down with her."

"This room is enchanted. If we get outside of it, we'll be safe." Comes the Vampires voices.

The lights start flickering as the room begins to shake a little as I clench my fists.

"Does that look safe to you?!" Comes Miss Black's voice. "She'll kill is all!"

I hear numbers being pressed into a phone and the Light Fae speaks. "Evan, we have an emergency! Send Amelia through a portal to the safe room, now!"

There's a pause before he speaks up again. "Well put her in the corridor, just hurry up!"

I stand there almost a full minute before my magic consumes me. I back away from everyone, careful not to touch Alexander who was somewhere near me and put myself in the furthest corner of the room. They all stare at me with fear.

"Just stay where you are." I say, but the voice that tumbles out doesn't sound like mine.

I'm scared for them. Whenever my magic is out I never feel like me. I wrap my arms around myself and cower into the wall. Everything just pushed me over the edge and I was ready to explode.

A knock on the door startles all of us and I jump, causing the lights to flicker with me.

"I'm just going to get the door, okay?" Miss Black assures me, holding her hands out in surrender. "It's Amelia."

My eyes narrow at her suspiciously but I nod watching her like a hawk as she opens the door but the person who steps in is not Amelia.

It's Evan.

I step forward, ready to strike them all down but then she steps in. The sight of her blonde hair almost making me cry. Even though it hasn't been long it feels like ages since I saw her.

"Oh my God Hailey!" Amelia runs over to me. "What did you people do to her?"

Looking at her from up close I can see the slight bags under eyes. She looks worn out.

"Don't touch her!" The voice comes from the long haired Light Fae. He pulls Amelia away from me and I glare at him, grabbing his throat in the second it takes for me to draw a breath. Amelia staggers out of his grip.

"Are you insane?!" Amelia screams at him. "She'll kill you!"

The man struggles but it's know use, I have him now.

"Hailey." Says clutching the arm I have around his neck.

"Stay back." I vaguely hear Alexander warning the others.

"Look at me Hailey." She smooths down my hair like she used to do when we were kids. I let the Fae go.

"Look." She says, generating a sphere of light for me. "Come back to me Hailey."

When she gestures for me to hold my palm out I do, not noticing how everyone collectively gasps as she places the bright sphere in my palm.

"How did you get here?" I ask her but my voice is still hollow as I slowly inject the globe with my magic, turning it darker and then handing it back.

"What even?" I hear someone ask.

"I stepped through a portal for you. It felt like I was on a roller coaster." She smiles at me then, shifting the ball between her hands. "Because we're Fae sisters. No matter what."

I watch as she throws the ball up against the ceiling and it burst into a shower of falling stars.

"Reign it in, Hailey." She says taking me into her arms as I finally get a hold of myself.

"Amelia?" I ask her, careful to told my emotions in check.

"Oh thank God." She says pulling back and grasping my face. "I thought I lost you for a second there."

"Sorry." I tell her sheepishly.

I hug her one last time before we turn to the others. There's all staring at us with their jaws hanging open.

"What?" Amelia asks.

That shakes them out of their stupor and I turn to the Light Fae I choked. "I'm sorry."

He shrugs it off but regards me doubtfully.

"Now that, that is settled, Evan and Amelia may take their leave." Samuel says and I glare at him.

What is it with these Vampires?

"Actually, that's why I stepped through the portal with Amelia." Even says. "Amelia will not be leaving with me."

"What?" Amelia and I say simultaneously.

"Evan-"

"They share the bond, Richard." Evan says to the Light Fae I choked making me furrow my brows.

The bond? What the hell is the bond?

"It can't be!" Richard replies.

Evan regards him coolly. "If you do not believe me after what we all just witnessed, you're a fool! Touch the girl and prove me wrong!"

Richard hesitantly but defiantly gets up and walks over to Amelia. I watch him curiously unsure of what his going to do, but when he snatches Amelia by the wrist I feel my eyes go black. He immediately drops his hand and walks away, leaving me to reign  myself in wondering what the hell just happened.

"What the hell is the bond?" Amelia voices my thoughts.

"Sometimes during dire circumstances two Fae develop a bond with each other. Well, their magic does. This is why Hailey is able to touch your spheres. Her magic has familiarised itself with yours. And vice versa." Evan explains.

"But what does that mean?" I ask him.

"It means your magic needs one another to feel safe and secure otherwise you will both spiral out of control. It is why both of you have been feeling out of it since the two of you have parted." He says. "It means that the two of you cannot be separated."

"Is this for real?" Amelia asks. "How could that happen without either of us knowing?"

"It's instinctual. Your magic will do what it must to protect you." Evan answers. "It's quite remarkable really. There's never been a bond like this between a Light and Dark fae before."

"Can you gaze minds?" I ask him, completely off topic but I didn't want Richard poking around in my head.

"I can. Why?"

"I received your gift." I tell him. "A vision of Alexander's parents emprisioned by Alpha Jace. I want you to pull it out."

He looks towards the Circle of Four and they nod. "You realise that will be painful?"

I straighten myself. "I do."

"Very well." He says gesturing for the others to step far away as he instructs me to sit.

"No interfering." He says pointedly to Amelia. "If I do one thing wrong she could lose all her memories or get trapped in her own mind forever."

Well, that doesn't sound very pleasant.

She nods, moving away and I sink to the floor, crossing my legs.

"Close your eyes and remember the feeling attached to the memory, then remember the memory itself and push it to the front of your mind. Offer it to me."

I do as he says, feeling a splitting head as he grabs hold of it. He seems to pull it out of my head and throw it into the air, the images lighting up the room as I sob, reliving the memory again, the pain in my skull making me want to scratch my brains out.

That's all I see before I start convulsing and pass out.
