Chapter Twenty Four - King Darrius

After leaving Damien, I decided to look for Athena.

I found her in a medium sized room with lots of books against the walls, sitting behind a large desk and typing away at her laptop.

She looked more delicate than ever, especially with the pale peach dress that was hanging off her shoulders.

I found it amazing how we could look so similar but so different at the same time.

"Hey." I said, not bothering to knock and promptly slipping into the seat infront of the desk. "I wanted to talk to you about Amelia's body."

Her eyes widens even she sees me. "You're not supposed to be out of bed."

"I'm fine, Athena." I shrug. "I need to know what we're going to do about Amelia's body."

She sighs leaning back in her seat, looking for tired than I've ever seen her. "Since Amelia was a light fae and dad's children were half, I tried contacting the Darrius, he is the Light Fae king but he wants nothing to do with us. It is their job to bury their own. However, since the hybrids were both Light and Dark Fae, we have to do it together. It's tradition."

I put my head in my hands, sore, exhausted and try to ignore how she said was. "Do you have Evan's number?"

She eyes me suspiciously but hands me her phone and I call the number.

He picks up on the forth ring and I sink back into my seat.

"Queen Athena." He says evenly on the other end. "To what do I owe this pleasure."

"Actually Evan, it's Hailey." I say. "Amelia is dead."

He gasps on the other end. "What happened?"

I relax a little more, grateful that he didn't ask me how I was. Now that I was used to pain in my body, the pain of the broken bond between Amelia and I was making itself apparent.

I feel so guilty. I knew I wasn't spending as much time with her as I should have since we left The Academy and I definitely shouldn't have left her with Alexander. If I had just brought her with me, she'd still be alive.

I ignore his question. "I need to speak with King Darrius."

"I can arrange that." He says. "Be here at noon."

"Thanks Evan." I say and then I hang up.

Athena looks at me genuinely confused. "How did you get him to agree just like that? He won't even have a conversation with me unless it's absolutely necessary."

I chuckle a little, remembering how we met. "He was the same with me too. Actually, he was very rude. Then Amelia kinda tried to kill him and I saved his life."

She laughs with me and I ignore the pain in my ribs. "She sounds like a fiery girl for her bring a Light Fae."

I nod solemnly. "She really was."

"I think we should portal through." She says and I raise an eyebrow at her.

"We?"

"King Darrius is a bastard. He hates our kind." She says. "I'm not leaving you alone with him."

I exhale at that. Why is it that they keep treating us like shit as if we're completely different species. When really, we're just two sides of the same coin.

"Damien!" She yells like a crazy person.

I look at her. "You are actually properly insane."

She laughs and I laugh with her.
