Chris
"Hello?"I answered my phone, groggily. I wasn't sure what time it was exactly but I knew it was way too late for it to be going off right now.
"You are receiving a requested call from the Los Angeles correctional center. Do you accept the charges?" I sat up in my bed, rubbing my eyes. "Uhh yeah,"I said, pulling the phone from my face to see the time. 3:27am.
As the call connected, it hit me that this was a jail call and I tried to figure out which one of my homies it could be but I knew if they were in some shit, they'd hit me before it could come down to this point. I was stuck until a familiar voice picked up.
"Chris?"she spoke, shakily. "Kyla?"I asked, knowing for a fact it was her but wanted to be even more sure. At this point, I was fully awake and extremely confused. "Chris, please come get me, please." She was on the verge of tears, I could hear. She was never the type to cry easily so when she did, it was a big deal.
"Yea, baby, I'm coming. Give me like 30 minutes, ok? It's gone be ok, I'm coming."I reassured as she sobbed on the phone. Not giving her time to answer, I hopped out my bed, throwing a hoodie and some shoes on. What she did was the least of my concern right now, I just needed to get to her. I grabbed my wallet and keys, racing down the steps and out the house.
Driving as fast as I could to the jail without getting pulled over, I got there in half the time I though I would.
I jumped out my range and speed walked inside, straight toward the front desk. I prayed on the way here this was the right one.
"Excuse me,"I said, making the lady at the desk look up from her paper work. "Can I help you?"she said, looking at me sideways. "Is there a Kyla Reid here?" She looked at me for a few seconds before producing the nastiest eye roll I've ever seen. She started typing on her computer then looked back up at me. "Yes. Anything else?" "Um she's up for bail right?" She looked at me for a few seconds again before going back to her computer.
"Yes, she is. $5400." I raised my eyebrows, then went in my wallet pulling out my card and handing it to her. "I have to fill something out, don't i?" Again, she looked at me then snatched my card and slammed some papers down on her desk. "Fill that out over there,"she told me, pointing towards the waiting area. "And I need your ID, sir." I gave her everything she needed without arguing back at her because this bitch was pushing it.
As fast I possibly could, I filled out the paper and took it back to her. She gave me my card and ID back and told me Kyla would be out soon.
Not too long after, she was being escorted to the front by an officer. I was taken back by her appearance. Her arms had cuts and bruises on them. Her face had a few cuts and scratches as well. There was dry blood from her lip and dry tears stained her face and her hair was an absolute mess.
Right when she saw me, fresh tears began welling up. The officer let her go and she ran into me, crying her eyes out. I picked her up and carried her outside to my car, sitting her in the passenger seat. I ran around to my side and got in quickly.
"Kyla, calm down. What's going on? What happened to you? And where's Adrian?"
Kyla
Adrian was my boyfriend. Well, ex now. I got with him way after Chris and I broke up. Chris and I broke up because we were drifting apart, not on purpose of course. I mean with his newest album that just came out and the numbers the tour did, he was BUSY. And I was perfecting my craft for my business I was working towards. I say was because I may have just fucked it up now that I have a criminal record.
