Monday morning, Jose was in the bathroom doing his usual routine in the bathroom after his shower and was halfway dressed. He shuffled into his room and threw on his t-shirt and sneakers so he could meet Colby for his ride to school.
Jose jogged downstairs and stretched his arms while his mom was playing the radio as she cooked.
"Buenos días." Jose greeted, kissing his mom's cheek.
"Buenos días, mijo." His mom, Anna, smiled.
Jose sat down at the kitchen table with his two sisters and dad. He was instantly wrapped up into the conversation while he ate with them that soon slowed down when his older sister Sophia had to leave for work and his younger sister Lilian's school bus came.
Jose put his dish in the sink as he listened to his parents speak to one another in hushed Spanish. Jose picked up his book bag from the back door and put it on his back.
"Colby picking you up?" His dad asked.
Jose nodded, checking his phone to see Colby saying he was around the corner and to come outside when he was ready. "Yeah. He does everyday." He looked at his parents and yawned. "Why?"
Anna shook her head and leaned against her husband's shoulder since he was sitting down and her standing. "We find it nice that he drives you. He even picks you up from practice some days."
Jose smirked to himself as he headed towards the side door so he could go meet Colby outside. "Yeah. It is. I'll see you guys later."
The moment Jose was out the door and stepped foot onto the driveway, he saw Colby leaning against his car on his phone. Colby looked up when he heard Jose walking towards him and smiled.
"My parents are watching us." Jose warned him, greeting Colby with a kiss.
Colby chuckled. "How you know? Saw them looking at me out the window?"
Jose opened up the back door and threw his book bag inside. "No. They were asking about us and stuff. How come I've never met your parents?"
"I don't talk to my dad." Colby reminded him, opening the passenger door from him then walked around the car. When they were both inside, Colby finished his thought. "You've met my mom many times."
"At football games and stuff." Jose shrugged. "But you had dinner with my family. What? You ashamed of me?"
Colby laughed while starting up his car. "Ashamed? You're not as special as you may think you are."
Jose playfully rolled his eyes as they drove off to the school. "Whatever. Then why ain't you ever invite me over? What? You got a kid I don't know about?"
"I'm gay. Can't just have a surprise baby." Colby teased, leaning his elbow on his door and resting his fingers on his lips. "If you really want to, you can. But I don't spend a lot of time at home. Usually spend it...out."
"Yeah, yeah. I know." Jose sighed, leaning back in his seat. "You spend your time either at school, basketball practice, or at work. Or with me." He smiled.
Colby smirked, glancing at his boyfriend for a moment then back at the road. "I'll always make time for you. Anyway, I'll call my mom and you can probably come over this weekend. When's your playoff game?"
"Friday."
"Then I'll plan it for Saturday. I'll give you my address later. Or I'll just pick you up." Colby mumbled, but clear enough for Jose to understand.
Jose thought for a moment about that statement. "I haven't been to your house either!" He gasped. "What the hell?!"
Colby laughed to himself and drove around the school. He pulled into the athletic building parking lot where Jose spent his mornings at. "I'll see you second period. Love you."
