Saturday night, Jose walked outside his front door when he saw Colby waiting for him on the hood of his grey four door car. Colby put his phone away and smiled at his boyfriend.
"You ready for this?" Colby asked, pushing up the sleeves of his long sleeved black shirt.
Jose nodded, tucking in his button up shirt. "Am I over dressed?"
"A button up and slacks?" Colby snickered. "Definitely. It's just dinner with my mom and brother. We're not meeting the prime minister."
Jose rolled his eyes and got in the car. Colby backed out of the drive way and took off down the road so they could get there sooner. By the time they left the neighborhood, Colby glanced at Jose then to the road when he saw him angrily looking at his phone.
"What's wrong?" He asked. "What? Mateo tell you that you have an early practice or something?"
"No." Jose grumbled. "We're talking about Clover's scholarship offer in our group chat. It's better than mine."
"A better offer than Alabama?" Colby frowned. "What's better than Alabama?"
"Georgia." Jose spat. "The coach offered her the best scholarship you could ask for. She told Andrew she might take it."
Colby shook his head, smiling. "What? You jealous?"
"She's my friend." Jose pointed out.
"Are you jealous?" Colby repeated.
"She's like my sister."
Colby nodded his head. "You're jealous."
"I'm confused." Jose shrugged, looking out the window. "How...how could she get something better than me? Better than us?"
"Cause she's a girl?" Colby questioned.
"Cause she's a 5'4 quarterback!" Jose emphasized. "Statistically, she won't make it. I just...I don't want to see her get hurt."
"Why? Football season is over. The second we got that trophy, we might as well have stood on the other side of the line of scrimmage from each other. It's over, babe. Jaguar code is broken now." The Armenian boy said flatly.
"Jaguar code is never broken. They're my family. Always will be." Jose argued.
"Not all of you are going to make it." His boyfriend pointed out. "You can't hold onto them forever. If it comes down to them or you, who is it?"
Jose looked over at Colby to make eye contact. "Me."
Colby nodded his head and looked back at the road. "End of discussion then. I'm not saying you need to stop being friends, but so what if she's going to the highest rank college? That doesn't mean it'll be highest rank this time next year. If you don't think she's going to make it, then maybe she won't."
"But what if she's the one who makes it?" Jose whispered, looking at the window. He dropped the subject when he realized that they had been so deep in the conversation that he didn't realize where they were. "Whoa. These houses are big."
Colby didn't reply while parking the car in the drive way of one of the homes. They both got out, Colby walking to the front door while Jose admire the large house with two garages and a luxury car in the drive way.
"Is this your house?" Jose asked, following behind his boyfriend.
Colby nodded, opening for the front door for Jose and letting him inside. "Yeah. Me and my mom live here."
Jose's jaw dropped seeing the interior. The foyer had a stair case along the wall greeting them upstairs. Jose noticed photos hung up along the walls of Colby and his family. He looked forward to see a woman with short black hair, a blue dress on, and a wine glass in her hand coming near them with a wide smile on her face. It was Colby's mom, Lia.
