The next morning, a Wednesday, Jose was sitting on the curb outside his house tying his cleats together as he was waiting for his ride to school. It wasn't long before the sun was blocked from in front of him and he looked up to see a grey four door car.
Jose stood to his feet, grabbed all his bags, and got inside. He tossed his bags into the backseat before greeting his boyfriend Colby with a kiss.
"Took you long enough." Jose groaned, putting on his seatbelt while Colby drove towards school.
Colby rolled his eyes then kept them focused on the road. "Stop complaining. I could've left you behind."
Jose didn't reply verbally and instead turned his head to the window and stared out of it. Colby glanced at him, laughing.
"Stop acting like a baby." Colby laughed. "Come on. Let's talk." He reached over and put his hand on Jose's shoulder.
Jose tried to shrug Colby off of him, but Colby wouldn't move. Jose groaned, refusing to speak to Colby. Colby kept his hand on Jose's shoulder and on the back of his neck for another two minutes of silence until he tried again.
"Come on, talk to me. When's your first baseball game?" He tried.
"Saturday." Jose huffed. "You coming?" He asked, finally looking over to Colby.
"I'll see if I can make it." Colby replied, putting his hand back on the wheel.
Jose gave Colby a look before looking out the window when they pulled up to school. Jose tried to get out the car, but Colby locked the doors.
"What?" Colby chuckled. "What's the big deal? I'll go to the next one if I can't make this one. I know you'll do great anyway. I got to help my mom with selling some of her and my dad's old stuff."
Jose huffed, hitting the unlock button and getting out the car. He grabbed his bags out of the backseat of the car then slammed the doors. Colby sighed, turning his car off and getting out.
"I'll try." Colby offered him. "That's all I can tell you. I can't make a promise."
"Fine." Jose spat, walking off inside school. Colby trailed behind him but didn't try to catch up. Jose went off to his locker while Colby went straight to his class to drop off his books.

A few periods later, Diego was sitting in his fourth period class with his feet up on the desk. He glanced next to him to see Mila using her phone as a mirror as she fixed her high ponytail.
Mila looked through her phone reflection to see Diego looking. "There a reason why you're staring?" She asked, turning towards him.
Diego shrugged, looking back forward at the movie that was playing in the front of the classroom. "You remember the first time we saw this movie?"
"What movie is it?" Mila asked halfheartedly, switching from her camera app to Instagram.
Diego scoffed playfully and took his feet off the desk. He leaned towards her, getting so close that his nose was almost touching her cheek. "It's Jaws. You had me sneak into your room because you were grounded. You hid me in your closet when your mom came to check on you. Then when she left, we made out on your bed until your little brother woke up."
Mila scoffed, using her shoulder to push Diego away from her. "Oh yeah. I remember. You thought you were all fly and had all this swagger. When in reality you smelled like dirt, sweat, and weed from driving in your nasty filthy truck. Which you didn't hide well since you parked it two doors down."
Diego laughed as he flopped back into his seat. "Wow. You're mad at me."
"Not mad." Mila cleared up, putting her phone face down on the desk and turning towards him to look him in the eyes. "You're just not gonna play your usual tricks on me. See, I don't fall for your usual tricks anymore. Sweet remembrance, sweet kisses, and sweet words. Not falling for it, Martinez. You still cheated on me with a girl on my cheerleading squad."
