Today was the Friday before prom meaning some of the students of Grand Ridge were waiting for the night of their young lives.
Clover, Diego, Ethan, Stephen, and Jacob were walking together to the lunch room when they noticed a large crowd at the front of the cafeteria surrounding a table.
"What's going on?" Jacob wondered, walking closer, but stopped at the edge of the crowd.
Diego glanced over to the right and saw his girlfriend and her best friend. He walked over to the two cheerleaders and motioned to the crowd. "What's going on? What happened?"
Mila scoffed, rolled her eyes, and crossed her arms. "Macy's on an ego trip again. Voting from prom closes in an hour, and she's making sure she gets those last few votes."
Jessica nodded, looking up at Diego. "Yeah. She's giving out cupcakes and flyers."
Ethan lead them through the crowd as they all pushed their way through. When they were all in front, they noticed Macy with some of her friends handing out flyers and cupcakes. She personally handed them all a flyer with her name and face on it. Stephen was the only one who took a cupcake, biting into it once it was in his hands earning him the looks from his friends.
"What?" He asked, his mouth full of food.
Clover looked forward while the boys shared the cupcake when Macy spoke up.
"Looks like the kings and queen, and their two little peasants, aren't going to win it all after all," Macy smirked nastily. "Too bad. I wish I could've seen the looks on your faces when you were finally de-throned."
Clover balled up the flyer that she was holding between her fore and middle fingers and threw it back at Macy. "I'm running too. What makes you think I won't win?" She asked, putting her hands on the table and getting in Macy's face.
Macy scoffed, doing the same action, so they were inches from each other. "You haven't even tried. Can't sit back and do nothing forever. Try getting off your lazy ass and live up to your little nickname. Real 'queens' get off their asses, get their hands dirty, and work for what they want. Not just get helmet hair."
"You have a huge ego," Clover commented, "I have a football team."
Clover pushed Macy out the way and stood on the top of the table to look at the whole crowd plus the entire lunchroom. She looked down at Diego for some help getting their attention. Diego put his fingers to his mouth and let out a loud, ear-piercing whistle to get everyone's attention. Everyone turned around when they heard the boys yelling to get their attention.
"Hey, Jaguars!" Clover beamed, "I, your favorite quarterback, am running for prom queen. If I win against Ms. suck-a-lot here, the football team has one last hurrah party after prom. And everyone's invited. Tell your friends! No entry fee, no lists, and no exclusions. There will be food, drinks, and loud music. It'll be fun getting to party with all of you one last time."
People started clapping and cheering as Clover jumped down off the table in front of Macy. They were centimeters from each other, staring intensely at one another.
"A party?" Macy scoffed, looking Clover up and down. "That's it?"
The quarterback grabbed a cupcake and bit into it. "Better than sucking your way to the top." Clover shoulder bumped her as she walked by and said, "You could never lace up my cleats, bitch."
The boys, Mila, and Jessica, laughed when Clover tossed the cupcake over her shoulder, it landing right on Macy's shoulder.
"Damn," Jacob smirked, "she doesn't miss."
