"The scariest thing about distance is you don't know whether they'll miss you or forget about you."
The weekends was usually Rosie's favorite thing about the week, but after the fight, maybe breakup between her and Peter, Rosie wished that Monday would never come so that she wouldn't have to go to school and face him and his friends.
Rosie was currently sitting on the second story rooftop of her new home, deep in her thoughts. So deep that she didn't notice Cassandra climbing out the window and mumbling a quiet "hey" before taking a seat on the edge beside her.
"Nathan told me that you're out here." "Did he also tell you that I didn't want to be disturb?" Rosie questioned, not in a harsh but in an annoyed tone. "Ya know, I've been through what you're going through right now."
"Really?" Rosie asked, turning her attention away from the view of the distant city and towards Cassandra. "Yup," She nodded. "When I became what I am now, my f-fiancé left me. Saying that I'm a monster and that I need to be sent to some lab to be tested on..."
Rosie raised her hand and let it rest on Cassandra's shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze with her eyes full of sympathy. "I'm sorry Cassandra. You didn't deserve that."
Cassandra nodded, agreeing with her. "I was broken, depressed. I didn't know how to control my powers, I was completely freaking out until I met Diane." Cassandra placed a comforting hand on Rosie's knee, sending a wave of comfort to shoot through her body. "She changed me, for the better. She taught me that I didn't need no man to be happy. All I needed was family."
"And Rosie," Cassandra gripped Rosie's chin in the palm of her hand, tilting the teenager's head up so their eyes couldn't meet. "You're now family."
A small smile curled up onto Rosie's lips, "Thank you..." Her words barely coming out as a whisper. "And I'm not saying that you shouldn't work out whatever is going on between you and that Peter guy. What I'm saying is, if things don't work out, you don't need him. You just need yourself."
Rosie nodded, feeling tears fill up in her eyes at the sudden paranoid thought came up in her mind. "I don't want to go to school tomorrow. I'm scared," A couple tears managed to escape from her eyelids and slide down her cheeks. "All my friends probably hate. They think I'm cheating on Peter."
Cassandra didn't say anything, shaking her head and leaning down for it rest on Rosie's shoulder. "Well, you just need to prove them wrong. I don't know how, but I know you can."
"I love you." Rosie mumbled, smiling at the thought of Cassandra being the sibling she never had but always wanted. "I love you too." She chuckled at the younger girl, the two of them spending the rest of evening sitting on the edge of the roof, admiring the view of the sun setting.
