the class was quiet, the only sound came from students tapping their pencils softly on the tests in front of them. you looked at the test, you were beyond confused, you stuck your tongue out a bit as you harshly erased the work in front of you .
"5 minutes left," the teacher said from her desk. your head shot up and stress began to build up, you looked down at your test. you only had a few problems left, but they didn't make sense to you.
you had been out of school for nearly a month and the teacher didn't seem to care that she you were absent, as she insisted on you doing the test. you continued filling out the last few problems, knowing they were all incorrect.
you collected your books and followed the eager students out the door, you handed the teacher your completed test and walked out. per usual, jaebum was outside of the classroom waiting on your arrival. "you look dead," he said, pointing out something you were already well aware of.
"no shit," you replied. he furrowed his brows and quickened his pace in attempt to keep up with you as you stormed off down the hall. "what's wrong?" he quizzed once he finally caught up to you.
"i so failed that fucking test," you began, "she didn't even care that i missed out on that entire lesson, i had to teach myself the whole thing. i never get bad grades, but this one, i know i bombed it."
"you don't know that," jaebum reassured you, "come on, we're going to be late for english." he urged. you nodded and followed him down the hallways which was flooded with other students rushing to get to classes.
you sat down in your seat, which was towards the back of the room. jaebum sat next to you and took out the english homework that was assigned the previous night.
"we had homework?" you asked opening your binder in hopes you had actually finished the paper.
"yeah we did, but it's your first day back. she might let it slide..." jaebum trailed off. you puff your cheeks out, that had always been a habit of yours. whenever you were stressed you would unintentionally puff out your cheeks.
"that was cute," jaebum muttered, inaudibly. you look over at him with furrowed brows, "did you say something?" you asked. he looked at you with wide eyes, "oh, uh... no."
you nodded your head and faced forward, preparing yourself to tell the teacher of your unfinished homework.
she walked around with her notebook, checking off students names who actually completed the work. smiling whenever they showed her a full paper. the teacher finally arrived at your desk, she stood in front of you, waiting for the expected assignment.
"i d-didn't finish," you mumble, but at a clear enough voice for her to frown and put a circle around your name.
"why not?" she quizzed, noticeably upset. you look into her eyes, "i wasn't here for the past month." you say truthfully.
"you're a great student, i really expected better from you," she tsked, moving on to jaebum who quickly shoved him homework back into his folder.
"homework?" she asked, looking up from her checklist. jaebum shook his head, proud of his generous action. she teacher rolled her eyes and headed down the isle full of students.
"now why the hell would you do that?" you asked.
"it wasn't fair that she just expected it to be all caught up on the past month in which you missed." he said sheepishly.
you felt a giggle bubble in your throat, you hide your face trying to make sure jaebum didn't notice the faint pink hue that was sprinkled along your cheeks. "thank you," you whisper hesitantly.
he nodded, also hiding his face from you. he didn't dare meet your eyes as he knew you'd soon notice the same pink shade drizzled across his own cheeks.
