Y/n took a book from the shelf and began to read through it. She noticed the book was about poetry. She read the first one.
Trust
My friends tell me they don't tell lies
But I can see it in their eyes.
The way they glint in the sun
Is like the barrel of a gun.
They sometimes snitch on me
They always make me hide and flee.
But I don't have to run anymore
I've pushed them right out the door.
Is it wrong to say 'goodnight',
While the snow outside glows in moonlight? They don't lie or snitch no more.
For I have shut them out the door.
They've frozen solid in the cold..
And with this burden, I grow old.
Now and again, I see their faces..
Only lies live in those traces. Those faces, contorted in pain.
I've killed them...all in vain.
For those I trusted, have looked at me disgusted. On the doorstep among the snow...
What have I done?
Only God will know.Y/n read the poem four times before shutting the book and placing it back onto the shelf. Mrs. Rachel walked into the room again with a tray. She set the tray down in a nearby table and poured some tea from the teapot into a cup. "I made a nice blend of chai and cardamom." Miss Rachel said, gently giving Y/n the cup and saucer. Y/n accepted the tea, thanking her hostess. "Much obliged, Miss Rachel.." Her hostess chuckled, sipping her own tea. "If I may, Miss Rachel...I read a poem from one of your books.." Y/n began, hesitating for a moment. "May I ask...why are they a bit...uh...morbid?" Y/n asked, trying to not sound rude or demanding. Miss Rachel chuckled, smiling sadly. "My daughter used to love dark stories and poems..." Y/n nodded respectfully. "Before she died from a coach accident, she used to collect all sorts of dark and morbid bits and bobs..."
Y/n instantly felt bad for the poor old woman. "My sincere apologies for your loss...I had no idea that these books were hers.." Y/n said, Miss Rachel simply nodded. "She was a lot like you... actually. She always had this nickname her cousins and friends would give her...Raven.." Y/n's gaze shot up from her teacup to the woman's face. She studied every little detail of it. "Is something wrong, Y/n?" She asked, Y/n shook her head. "No no ..just had a sudden memory, is all." She set her cup down, and stood. "I don't mean to cut this short, but I really must be going...thank you for everything, Miss Rachel, but there are people who placed bounties on my head." Miss Rachel's face suddenly drained of all color. "W-wait...are you t-the..Wolf..?" Y/n shrugged, then quickly retrieved her coat and belongings and opened the door to the cold outside. There was a Rook walking past, who recognized her. "Oi! Y/n! I need to talk to ya about somethi-" Y/n had already ran past him before he could finish, he turned and started to give chase. "Please! Stop running!" He yelled out breathlessly. "Watch out for...the carriage!" He yelled, Y/n simply slid underneath the oncoming carriage, scaling the side of a building and sitting on the edge. She heard boots crunching the snow behind her. "If you've come to take me in for whatever I've done, then sayonara. If not, then whatcha need?" Y/n said, not facing the stranger behind her. "Y/n..." Jacob's voice softly said. Jacob?? Wait...why does he sound so weak.. Y/n thought, turning around to see him clutching his side, blood seeping between his fingers. "Jacob!" Y/n yelled, shocked at his state. His image flickered before her vision, she saw her mother...dying...and then Jacob standing there with a weak grin. "Mind if I jus take a small nap..?" He said, stumbling as Y/n tried to help him. "Damnit Jacob! What did ya do this time?!" He chuckled lightly. "Oh ya know...pubs and Blighters..." He slurred as he was slowly passing out from blood loss. "Just...jump into the haycart..then you can just sleep okay?" Y/n said, losing composure. He grinned lopsided, then fell off the building into a pile of snow-covered leaves. Y/n free-ran down, dragging him out of the leaves. "Oi! You! Rook!" She yelled at a few Rooks. "Your leader ain't doin so well!" They ran over and helped her carry him. They carefully placed him into a carriage, then sped off. Leaving Y/n alone. Y/n thought it would be time to go to the train...perhaps for a visit.
On the train..
Y/n opened the door to the caboose, shutting it as she walked in. Her calm but aggressive demeanor made the salesman tremble slightly. She jumped the gap between the two train cars, several Rooks went quiet, in fear.
She again, jumped another gap, then another. She went straight to Evie.
"Jacob is that yo- ..." Evie began, surprised by Y/n's sudden appearance.
"I never thought you'd show up here after our last meeting." Evie said bitterly, a small tone of sadness loomed in her voice. "Your brother is hurt and you sit here awaiting his arrival...doing what? Sitting here, sipping your tea, searching for the god-forbid Pieces of Eden. Perhaps the key is in your cup, let's have a look shall we?" Y/n advanced towards Evie.
To Y/n's surprise, Evie actually was have trouble maintaining her composure. "Y/n." Henry said by the doorway, he was about five feet away from them. "That's enough." He said firmly, Y/n ignored him and kept forward. Evie pressed herself against the wall. "Ever find what it's like to be trapped like a rabbit in a snare? I've already known what it feels like." Y/n hissed. Henry pulled Y/n away from Evie, holding her firmly so she didn't escape. "That's. Enough." Evie quickly regained composure, blushing slightly at Henry's arrival. "Thank you Mr. Green..." She said. Y/n smiled at Evie innocently. "Am I insane, Evie?" Y/n said abruptly. "I'm sorry?" Evie said, confused. "Am. I. Insane?" Y/n repeated herself. Evie shrugged. "I think so." Henry released his grasp on Y/n. "Why would you ask that Y/n?" Henry asked. "I'm not sure actually! I think all this killing has finally caught up to me! But..." Y/n's grin suddenly changed to an unreadable expression. "Evie...who am I?" Henry had left the carriage after a few minutes, Y/n repeated her question. "Your Y/n L/n...you've always been.." Evie responded, confused. "Am I though? I don't even remember my past.." Evie stood confused. "But you do remember pieces..." She said, Y/n responded with a harsh tone, her expression going from empty and unreadable to aggressive and murderous. "Bits and pieces don't make a story. And legend doesn't make it truth." Y/n growled, Evie sighed. "Go get some rest Y/n." "I'm not a chi-" "GO GET SOME REST Y/N." Evie raised her tone. Y/n grinned with an empty look in her eyes. "Fine." Then she left and flopped onto the couch, passing out immediately.Evie opened her journal, and began writing.
---------
Y/n isn't in her right mind...she hasn't been for a while now. She can switch emotions like a bird switches tune. I must be careful around her. What if she attacked Jacob? What if she attacks me? Or Henry? She asked me if she was insane. At first I didn't understand, but as her demeanor changed, so did my answer. I am starting to think she might be losing her own mind at this point, perhaps we pushed things too fast? Perhaps some rest will do her good.As for the Shroud...we haven't come any closer to more information.
