Chapter Six

Her given name, once again.

They walked out of the diner in silence. Their knuckles brushing against each other with the sway of their hands, both shoving their hands into their pockets right after. Lena started up conversation by pointing out something happening on the busy streets, and that's how conversation continued. Ending as quick as they started.

The pair walked by the arcade, and Lena couldn't lose the opportunity to check. She hasn't since school started. She muttered a quick 'give me a moment,' and walked into the establishment. Katsuki shook his head with a groan, but followed her. Curious on to why she needed to be in there.

He found her at a game he was all to familiar with. He checked the leader board she was looking at, and saw his name still at number one. He sighed in relief, but Lena had her brows furrowed in anger. What was she even doing here? To his knowledge, no one plays this game besides him and one other. It was always empty here every time he came.

"Wait a second... No way." He mumbles.

"What?" She says, about to take a quarter out. She needed her name at number one. "I just need to get my name at- Wait-"

"Princess?" His eyes widen, hers following.

"You- No! King-Explosion-Murder?" He nods his head. "You can't be the one who I've been playing against all summer."

"Of course it has to be you. Shitty girl." What a weird thought process the universe must have. It has a way of pulling people together. Over games, over competition. It couldn't be something normal, like at a coffee shop, that'd be too boring. Too simple for the difficult game we call life.

He pops a quarter into the game two, and tells her to switch game from Single Play to Duel. She mutters a "don't tell me what to do,' but listens nonetheless. "I'll win, you know."

"We'll see about that, Doll Face." They play the game, the only noise around them is the sound of the control pad. They didn't fuck around and try knocking the other off their game, or else they wouldn't consider it a true win.

Their skills exceeded those fit for an old and simple arcade game. They needed to duel with something more advanced because their efficiency around the game made it last too long. But in the end, Katsuki received the last blow, and lost against Lena.

She gloats in victory while he sulks and rages, cursing himself for the loss. He didn't handle it, he demanded a rematch to show that loss is below him, and that he always wins. Lena has the same idea when it comes to competition, so she agreed.

"You'll only embarrass yourself further." She mocks. That turned to be false as he won the next game. They went to settle it, best 2 out of 3 style, but couldn't due to the arcade closing time.

They muttered strings of curses at each other while they left, and then didn't speak another word. They tried focusing on their surroundings, the change of city noises and chatter while they were in town, to the noises of trees rustling and birds chirping while in the home subdivisions.

But in the end, the two found themselves focusing on the steady breathing of the other. The scent of cologne and burnt caramel on one, and the scent of vanilla and faint burnt wood on the other. They focused on the rustling sound of their clothes, and the overwhelming presences of the other.

I cannot believe he spent the whole day with me. He isn't as bad as everyone makes him out to be, and he did amazing today with the activity. I can do better, but other than me, there's no doubt that he is our class best. His company isn't bad either, it's fun having someone to compete with.

Shitty girl, forcing me to spend all day with her. I could've been home, but instead I'm with her. And I cant fucking believe she listened to me talking with Deku.. stupid.. I guess her pulling me away and training together was a good way to let out all that dumb anger. She is strong, I guess, not nearly as strong as me though. I was fucking spitting nonsense at Deku when I said that.. Shitty Deku.
