"Don't. This is between him and I. No one else but me will get to resolve it."
He gave her a tight lipped smile and hummed. She didn't spare him another glance and went to go lay on their now shared bed. They way she melted into the mattress almost made sleeping beside him worth it.
He sat on a chair and opened the book he left waiting. No words were spoken.
Lena tried comprehending the situation she found herself in calmly. She was itching to do something that'll let off steam, even if it was just an activation of her quirk.
Her hands kept wavering the red colour that signifies the usage of her quirk. Maybe training wasn't such a reliable coping mechanism, but she couldn't really whip out a notebook or sketchbook and do her more relaxing one.
"Let go of your quirk, if you wanna. My entire bed is fire resistant." Dabi muttered, taking his hand and showing her his blazing blue flames.
She stopped herself from asking questions. But with a smirk on her face, he mimicked his actions.
The smile on his face felt familiar.
Letting out her quirk felt good, but it was bothersome that Dabi knew that.
She yawned. She was tired, but knew she wouldn't sleep.
"Go to sleep. You've had a long couple of days." She locked eyes with Dabi.
"Fighting with classmates, travelling alone through some forest, and then getting kidnapped by my abusive brother. Yeah, I'd consider it quite a long day."
"Ayatu never told us much. About you, I mean." Dabi sat up straighter and put his book down. Lena didn't want to converse with him. "He told us he just needed his sister back, and we have to listen to him."
"For years he abused me. You guys were watching me, right?" His silence was enough. "How? Suzuki, right?"
"I cant tell you that." His voice went deeper. He was going to get mad.
"Hm. I knew something was wrong with her."
"Did you? Or were you just jealous of her and the blondie?" Lena sat up straight at this. Dabi laughed. "Yes, we watched you for a while."
Thinking of Ayatu peeking through into her personal life for god knows how long made her skin crawl. Dabi must've known this.
"It wasn't Ayatu. Although information gathered was brought to him. It was more lowlifes like me doing the jobs."
Didn't make Lena feel much better. She didn't want to talk to him anymore, afraid of the information she might learn.
She laid back down and turned to her side. She pretended to fall asleep and heard Dabi leave the room.
She didn't sleep a wink her first night, despite the surprising comfort Dabi's bed brought her. Her mind was moving a mile a minute and she couldn't focus on just one positive thing. Even the thought of her friends brought agony now that she knows she can't be with them.
She was fighting the urge to cry. There was no privacy in here, and she wouldn't show weakness. She can't when she's in such a vulnerable position. Ayatu- or none of them can know how easy it is to get under her skin with just the mention of her elder brother.
