November 8th, Thursday. Chapter Twenty Two. ******************
"...It's not fun having several guns pointed right at your head. And even more so, by your own friends and family..."

"How are you feeling Nev?" I asked the small girl lying beside me as I ran my hands through her hair.
She still looked pale and tired although all she'd done was sleep. She still had Marley and the disposable camera clutched to her chest, refusing to let either of them go even for just a minute.
"I'm a little cold." She said in a soft whisper, her voice sounding scratchy, deep, and totally unlike her.
I reached over and tucked her further under the blanket of the bed. She hadn't had the energy to move this morning, and that worried me. She cuddled back into her pillow, looking up at me with her sad little eyes.
She looked as though she wanted to say something but didn't.
"Everything okay?" I asked her softly, moving her hair to the side.
She nodded slowly.
"I keep... I keep having bad dreams." So, do I kid.
"What kind of bad dreams?" I asked, "You know you'll always be safe with us, right?" She nodded again.
"Yeahhhh... But sometimes I dream about my dad," My heart skipped a beat or two, "And sometimes I dream about Marie. And sometimes I even dream about you," I offered her a smile that didn't reach my eyes, "But they're never good dreams. They're always bad dreams and they make a scared." I cupped her cheek, softly stroking her soft delicate skin as I looked her in the eyes and spoke.
"They're just dreams. They can't hurt you. And I know your dad isn't here anymore but the rest of us are. Nothing bad is going to happen to us as long as we're all together, okay?" She looked at me with pleading eyes just for a moment.
"Promise?"
"I promise. We love you so much Nev, and we'll do everything we can to protect you and Marie okay?" She smiled widely at me.
"I love you too Sydney... Sometimes I even wish that you could have been my mommy." I sucked back a laugh.
There was no way I was having that conversation with her right now. The nightmare talk had already concerned me, and it was only like eight in the morning.
"I love you Nev, get some more sleep, okay? Dream about all your favorite things." She let out a silent yawn.
"Puppies, ice-cream and unicorns?" I nodded.
"Of course, and don't forget rainbows as well." I placed a soft kiss on her forehead as her eyes closed and her breathing became long and heavy.
Poor thing was so exhausting she fell asleep within a matter of seconds.
