My New Best Friend

Chapter 11

Krystel

Staring at my phone I felt guilty. Sheryl was so nice and I'd just been ignoring her because of stupid comments of some bitchy people. I'm not gonna text back, I'll talk to her tommorow and apologise. I missed her company. Why the hell should I let them and their pathetic comments come between our friendship? I just hope Sheryl understands.

The next day at school I had butterflies as I went to look for Sheryl. I knew where she would be. She always came in, got a coffee and sat on the same bench until class. I spotted her, she was reading and didn't see me walking over.

"Ehm hey, can I sit down?" I asked quietly.

"Of course you can," she answered without looking up. I sat down beside her.

"Are you not angry with me?" I asked curiously.

"I have no reason to be mad, Krys. You haven't done anything wrong except not talk to me, which is your choice. If you don't like me then you don't like me."

"I do like you though, I'm sorry for the way I acted. Angela and Paige were making stupid comments about us being lesbians and it freaked me out a little," she looked up now. God, her eyes were amazing.

"Lesbians? How do they work that one out?"

"I don't know, it's ridiculous."

It went quiet.

"Do you fancy getting a pizza after school or something?"

"I'd love to but I'm working, I got a job at cafe Deramos. I will start at 6.30," she said smiling.

"Oh that's great, well, another time then?" I asked hopefully.

"Sure." The bell rang and we got up and walked to class.

Sheryl seemed fine, she is very understanding. I managed to get through the day without any comments from the ugly sisters. Walking through the door I heard my mum and our next door neighbour Susan laughing.

"Hey mum, hi Susan."

"How are you honey?" Susan asked. I liked her, she was nice. She used to babysit me when my mum and dad worked late or went out for meals.

"I'm good thanks. Mum, I'm not too hungry I'm just gonna head upstairs. I've got homework to catch up."

"Okay darling but make sure you eat something later."

"I will," I went upstairs and decided to have a hot bath. I spent an hour in the bath and when I finally got out it was only because the water had cooled down. Logging on to my laptop I couldn't be bothered but I knew I had homework to be done. I finished around 10 o'clock. After I had closed the laptop I went downstairs and made a sandwich, said goodnight to mum and dad and climbed into bed hoping there was a good film I could watch until I fell asleep. I found some comedy that looked alright so I left that on and picked my phone up.

{Hey :) Hope ur first shift went well. We are ok right?xx} I just wanted to double check we were fine.

{It went good thanks. Stop worrying babe, we are fine! What u up2?xx}

I smiled to myself.

{Just laying in bed watching some movie. U must be tired?xx}

I put my phone down and watched the film for about 10 minutes then fell asleep.

Friday soon came around and before I knew it I was walking out the school gate with Justin.

"Hey guys, you want a lift?" It was Sheryl.

"No thanks, hey we are going to the cinema tonight, do you fancy coming?" Justin asked. I was hoping she'd say yeah.

"Thanks for the offer but I've got a date tonight. A guy at work asked me out," she smiled. I felt weird inside. Maybe a little angry. Why though? I forced a smile.

"Oh that's great, have fun!"

"Thanks, I will." We just stood there watching her as she walked off. Justin turned to me.

"That's good that she has a date, I didn't think she'd be single for long. She is gorgeous." I ignored him.

"Let's go, Justin." We dropped our bags off and went down to the arcade for a bit before the film started. I loved the arcade. It was 11pm when we got out. "Are you okay, Krys? You've been a little quiet," said Justin. He was right I had been very quiet tonight. Normally I'd talk through the film and make jokes. Guess I was just tired.

"I'm fine. Thanks for a good night. I'll call you tomorrow," I kissed his cheek.

"Bye Krys."

I kept thinking about Sheryl. Guess I was just a bit jealous because I didn't want somebody to take away my new friend. My phone beeped and I looked at the screen. It was Sheryl.

{Hey hope u enjoyed the cinema. Wanna hanging out 2moro?xx}

I quickly texted back.

{Hey u, movie was great. Just walking home now. Yeah that would be good. How'd ur date go?xx}

{It went good thanks. Do u want me to pick u up? Where r u?!xx}

That made me smile, she was sweet. Anybody would be lucky to have her as a girlfriend.

{You're sweet but I'm ok, just 5 minutes and I'll be home. I'll come round yours about 12.30 2moro that ok?xx}

{That's fine! Let me know when u are in cause I worry :) xx }

{Okay, I'm in now mum! :p see u 2moro. xx}

Mum and dad were on the couch watching a film. "Hey honey, how was the film?"

"It was good, thanks dad. I'm going to bed. Goodnight."

"Goodnight," they both shouted. I slept like a baby that night.

The next day wasn't very nice because it looked like it would pour down any minute. I quickly got dressed and went over to Sheryl's before I got caught in it. I was going to knock the door when it opened. "Hey, I saw you coming. Come on in!" I shut the door behind me. "Krystel this is my dad and his girlfriend Natalie." they smiled at me.

"Hi Sheryl's dad and Natalie." Her dad laughed.

"Call me Ben. It's nice to meet you Krystel."

"You, too," I smiled sweetly.

"Okay dad, we're just going upstairs" I followed Sheryl up the stairs. We went into her bedroom and she put some music on. We lay on the bed talking. "Is there anything you wanna do?" she asked me.

"I'm happy just chilling. So tell me about this guy?"

"He's sweet Krys, he's cute, too. I'm seeing him again next week," I should be happy for her, I suppose. She was my best friend. I was glad she was happy, I liked her happy.

"I'm glad it went well. He's lucky to have you."

"Well, it's early days but hopefully it goes well. His name is Shane." I just hope this Shane doesn't take my best from me... There I go being jealous again-I need to stop that!
