Kaboom! The all-to-familiar sound of cement dropping from the ceiling crashing behind you shook the building violently. You shielded the family with your body, quickly looking back for a fleeting moment to see if the coast was clear. You were safe, the cement must've fallen next door.

"We have to keep moving!" You nudged the crouching people in front of you. A blonde woman, her mother, her husband, and her two children nodded as they all hustled toward the stairs. You navigated rubble from concaved ceilings, broken chairs and other assorted furniture. Your troop reached the stairs and you sighed a sigh of relief but you knew that the worst was yet to come. You ran down to the landing to make sure each step was safe. Your hand reached out and the wrinkled hand of the grandmother firmly grasped your own. Then the hand of a young boy and his father came next. You turned when a shockwave hit and the screams of the little girl reached your ears followed by the anxious sobs of a mother.

"Don't worry, it WILL be alright! You are going to be ok!" You comforted hoping your loss of confidence was held back by the dam of your words.

"I will be right back, stay right here!" You brought the rest of the family down to the street where they were guided to the first aid-shelter by other heroes. You bolted back inside to see much to your relief that they were still there and less panicked knowing that their family was safe. The hand of the shaking girl grabbed yours and you placed her on your hip.

"Momma!" She smiled through the salty tears and reached out for the woman, her feet touching the floor as you set her down. A rumble shook the floor, cement had fallen a few floors above and a shower of dust fell upon the three of you. Two sets of high-pitched screams and yells came out.

"MOMMY!"

"It'll be ok! H/n will save us!" She comforted her daughter but looked at you with pleading eyes as if she didn't even believe in her own words. You crouched and faced the little girl and put on a brave smile.

"She's right! I'll get you out of here!"

As fate would have it, you would not be able to fulfill that promise. You reached the mother and were pulling her carefully when the ceiling above you caved in. You lunged for the little girl and you both fell through the floor as the echoing shrieks of the hysterical woman above you echoed you and lulled you into a forced unconsciousness.

You woke up to the alarm of a heart monitor and the angry shouting of stupid people on daytime tv. Then you received the news that a successful rescue team had gotten to you and the child, but you were the only one who survived.

"NO!!!!" Your throat choked out accidentally waking up your partner next to you.

"What's wrong?" a groggy voice croaked.

A voice nearly sounding of a harsh reprimanding, "Nothing, go back to sleep."

You hustled out of the covers and ran to the bathroom where you grabbed your meds. The cold ceramic tiles welcomed you as you collapsed on the floor, bottle in hand. It was cruel, it laughed in your face with the bright colored bottle and label as you struggled to still your hands enough to follow the instructions on the white lid to open it. It shattered as you threw it against the wall with the added force of an explosion from your hand.
