Christmas lights are the most beautiful thing about Christmas time. The bright colors melding together to create elaborate displays of beauty was the superior art form to any other. You had a tradition with your family at Christmas time to go to every light display you could find. Sometimes, your family would even hop in the car and drive around neighborhoods to look at the pretty lights.
"Come on Izuku, we still have one more that we can go to tonight!" You encouraged your husband as he trailed behind you.
"But it's super cold, and," He yawned, "I have to teach tomorrow." He made a valid point. As a teacher, he was very good at his job and he put a lot of time into what he did. Almost too much time. He lived in the dorms with the students during the week but Nedzu allowed him to come home on weekends. It was kind of lonely but he made good money and he got to train the next generation of heroes, including the tenth user; Daiju Hinode.
"Alright." You sighed and turned back to hug him, "we can go home." You did your best to mask the disappointment.
He noticed you disheartened eyes, "Hey, it's okay, we still have a Christmas tree to decorate at home, and we have a ton of lights to go on that." He rubbed your back and kissed the top of your head.
"That's true!" you turned up your face to look at him, beaming with adoration.
"You are so adorable." He kissed you, nothing special, just a peck, "I love you y/n."
"I love you too." You two walked back to your car and you drove home.
You arrived home and were welcomed with the barking of your puppy in their kennel. You let the golden retriever out into the yard while Izuku got the Christmas decorations out. You came back in and you found that Phoenix had tackled Izuku who was now writhing on the floor as the furry yellow blob aggressively licked his face.
"He-lp-m-eee!" He pleaded. Laughter escaped your mouth for a few moments before you lifted the squirmy dog and tried to escape the tongue that had found its next target, you. Izuku got up as you put the dog back down on the ground.
"Thanks for the assist."
"No problem!"
You spent the afternoon decorating the tree, making jokes, hanging ornaments on each other, and just genuinely enjoying each other's company. He and you began fooling around when you were done and it ended up going further than you expected, but you didn't mind it. Over the next few weeks you felt more tense than usual, you were tired and you hadn't had your period, which you should've by now. While Izuku was at work you went to the drug store and grabbed a few pregnancy tests, fearing the worst, hoping for the best. You weren't opposed to having kids, but you weren't sure that you were ready for that type of commitment.
~15 minutes later~
'SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT!' You were pacing around the living room anxiously. You knew that he wanted kids, he told you that, but you had told him you weren't sure. He respected that, but now that you were pregnant, what were you going to tell him?
"How am I going to raise you on my own?" you laid on your bed and spoke into nothing but directed your question at the fetus, "I'm not prepared for that. I can't raise a kid on my own, I mean, it won't be completely on my own but often enough. Ugh, why does life have to be so difficult!" you sat up and the first thing you saw was an empty box and some wrapping paper. You had wrapped his Christmas present last week and that is why they were there. You lifted you hand and looked at the positive test, then the box, then the wrapping paper. You nodded and got to work.
~Christmas Day~
The school let you come to the dorms on Christmas but he couldn't go home as there were some kids who chose to stay at the dorms for the break rather than go home. You arrived with a couple boxes and some bags for the students and were welcomed with loud cheers, the smells of pine and chocolate, and the smooth voice of Michael Bublé.
"Mrs. Midoriya!" a few students called out to you but they were undermined by the deeper tone of Izuku.
"Hi everyone!" you took off your shoes and coat and walked down to the common area where everyone sat. All the presents were open already except for the ones addressed to you. A few new shirts, books, All Might memorabilia, headphones, and a speaker later, there was one small box that remained unopened.
"Open it Mr. Midoriya." One student pressured.
"This one is a little bit personal, so we can go somewhere else or you can open it here if you want." You advised, not sure if you wanted the students to know yet or not.
"I like to be transparent with them, so if you are okay with it, could I open it here?" He asked, you nodded, twiddling your fingers and wringing your hands. He undid the bow and students gathered around him as he ripped off the wrapping paper and the tape. He unraveled the tissue paper and was left awestruck. The white and blue piece of plastic fell into the bottom of the box with a clunk.
"You...this...real?" He stuttered and closed the box before the students could get a good grasp on what it was. You smiled and nodded and he jumped across the couch to hug you. "Y/n! I can't believe it I'm-"
"EWW! She peed on that!" a voice you didn't recognize called out.
"Shut up Namagachi!"
"No, it's gross!" The students began to bicker amongst themselves as you two collected yourselves.
~5 Years Later~
"Just a little further mommy!" You lifted your daughter just a little higher and she placed the star on the highest point of the tree!
"That's it Kiyoko!" Izuku cheered her on as she fell into his arms.
"I did it daddy!" She beamed at her father as she was placed on the ground. She jumped and danced in a circle, the lights shone on her and lit her skin with the colors of jewels. You felt hands on your waist and you were pulled into a slow dance as the dulcet tones of acoustic Christmas music.
"You shine brighter than all of these lights." He whispered in your ear.
"Oh, stop it." You brushed aside the comment.
"I'm serious, I love you so much and I am so thankful for you, Y/n Midoriya." He stared in your eyes and
"I love you too Izuku."
"Mommy I want to dance too!" she hugged on your leg.
"Of course, darling, sorry to leave you out!" You picked her up and held her on your hip while Izuku hugged you both. And so the three of you danced in the lights, your joy shining brighter than any star.
