It was a perfect day, oh how I've missed this

Perfect day, what did I do to deserve this?

Your hands fiddled in your lap as you sat across from your best friend. The nerves that were coiled inside your stomach were more than enough to make you get up and run, but you knew that Shoto deserved more than a simple explanation as to why you needed to stay with him without any notice.

"You don't have to tell me right now if you don't want to." He reached across the gap to the foot of the bed where you sat crisscross-applesauce and laid a tentative hand on your folded ones.

"No, you deserve to know." You managed to say as the gravity of the situation put you in a chokehold with it's ice-cold fingertips. "So um, I was hanging out with Devin, who as you know was my boyfriend of-"

"Seven months. You posted it on your Instagram three days ago." Shoto cut you off. You nodded.

"I did? I did. I better go delete that." You jotted it down in your mental notepad; along with the 50 things you were going to talk about in therapy. Apparently, you had dazed off enough to worry Shoto.

"Hey, earth to Y/n. Are you okay?" You looked back up at him with unauthorized tears streaming down your face."

"Why me?"

Went back to your house
And we couldn't help but hold each other
Tangled at the mouth
Took a break so I could take a shower

He sat there comforting you, rubbing your back, whispering consolations and encouragements in your tousled hair. You cried on his shoulder for a minute or two until you got control of your body again and began to swallow back the sobs and regain control of your voice.

"We, we were hanging out at his house, all that cute romantic stuff." Shoto had a straight face while he nodded at your story, "And, um we were sweaty and dirty so I decided to take a shower. I got up off the couch and went to the bathroom, and I accidentally forgot to turn on the fan." It was all coming back to you like you were there in the moment again.

From our perfect day spent at the beach

"Yesterday we spent the day at Shitsuren Beach and I was washing the little bits of sand and salt out of my hair." Thinking back on it, you had a great time at the beach. The sun was shining on the picturesque ocean. It reflected back a beautiful blue that was never seen unless photoshopped. The way the warm sand hugged you, the way his hands pressed in your skin, the way the ocean swept you away, it was all, unreal.

Looked into the foggy mirror
Saw a message staring back at me

"Anyway," you continued, getting back to the original story, "I got out of the shower, toweled off and went to open the cupboard to grab the bottle of moisturizer I kept there for occasions like this and in the steam were some words."

I saw "I love you" written in the steam
And I couldn't help but smile at the sweet message you left me

"At first I couldn't understand them because things written in fog tend to be a little more illegible. But, I saw the heart at the end and I saw the letters spell out I love you." You smiled at the thought of it, for those two blissful seconds on Shoto's bed, you forgot all about your sorrow. But then you touched back down to reality.
