Darkness is cast across the land.
Shadowing the trees in cloaks of mist,
Hiding the land from the sight of everyone.
-
Then, suddenly
Light pours into the woods.
The sun, peaking above the high hills
Comes into view
Shining down on the land
-
Everything awakes.
The birds, fluttering up
To sing the first morning song
-
The doe raises its head as
The first light of day
Dapples across the ground.
-
Soon, the mist clears,
Twisting away into nothingness
And the last traces of night vanish.
-
The sun sees all, knows all
As it travels across the land.
It watches the sparrow's singing,
And the salmon jumping upstream.
-
It even watches the trees, growing up
To the sun's rays
As they fall down to the earth.
-
When the sun starts dipping
Low to the west
The land quiets again
And day slips back into night.
-
Slowly, the mist creeps out
Of its hidden places and comes,
Twirling around the tree roots,
Conquering the land again.
-
The woods are watches only by a lone owl,
who stares up at the stars,
watching them twinkle in and out,
-
Cold like tiny pieces of ice,
But also hot,
As the parks from the day-fire.
-
In the silence, the owl watched,
Looking through the gathering night
Up to the heavens far above.
And then, suddenly, with a great rush of wings,
He takes off!
