Chapter Twelve: Bad vibes

After school had ended and I brought Bailey back home, we took off our shoes and tossed our bags on the floor and then raced to the kitchen.

I was in the lead rounding the corner to the pantry when she jerked my hood back making me slip as she leaped in front, giggling hard.

I groaned and grabbed onto her forearm pulling her behind me and then slid to the door handle while she jumped on my back and wrapped her legs around my waist.

I froze in place feeling my muscles tense while she laughed making her body jiggle against mine as her head falls onto my shoulder making her long blonde hair cascade down my right arm.

What. How do- I sfjkahlsdf.

"Why aren't you moving, miss liberty?" She snorted, hopping off my back and wiping the button of her nose with the back of her hand.

My mind blanked and I furrowed my brows before shrugging and swinging the door open as she pulled a chair from the island.

The stool scratched the floor with an ear piercing sound while I grabbed chips and Oreos from the shelf and shut the wooden door with my foot.

Bailey smiled at me tucking some loose strands of hair behind her ear before grabbing the sun chips from my arms and ripping the bag open.

I chuckled at her stuffing her face full with chips as I leaned on the counter staring.

Her brows drew together and she chucked a chip at my face before digging back into the bag.

"What?" I said, flicking the chip as I started sliding the Oreos to myself.

"You're being weird today," Bailey told me and I raised a brow at her, taking an oreo from the first row.

How?

I rolled my eyes and threw an oreo at her which hit the bag and she gasped pulling the chips away from my vision.

"Not my children," She hissed at me and gave me an angry look.

I raised my brows at her and then chucked another one before sticking out my tongue.

Bailey glared at me, shoving a few more chips in her mouth and rolling the bag up setting it on the counter.

She picked up the Oreos that I threw and then stood right in front of me with an innocent look on her face.

"Don't waste food," She said, frowning at the cookie.

Why does her pout look so cute right now?

Bailey's hand hovered my head and I gave her a weird look right when her fingers crumbled the oreo on top of my hair.

What the shit.

I gasped, making an 'O' shape with my mouth while she covered her lips and giggled.

Despite the fact that she was making a mess in the house and my mom was gonna be pissed since she just cleaned it, I was smiling.

For some reason, the action made me happy when I should be bothered, but the sight of her trying to stifle her laughter made me grin.

I smirked at her, grabbing her free wrist and pulled Bailey against my body staring into her eyes.

A slight breath left her mouth and she was startled by the unexpected movement and so was I.

Why did I have the sudden urge to pull her close?

I stared at her hand that dangled, still clutching the first oreo I threw at her and then took it from her grasp and examined it.

"I believe you were the one wasting food first when you tossed that chip at me," I responded, crumbling the oreo over her shiny blonde hair.

It looked like black snow sprinkling on her, and the look in her eyes was hard to decipher but it was like a mix of surprise with awe.

"Look at the mess you two made!" My mom's voice sounded, and I sprang away from Bailey instantly.

"Peter, you better clean this up." She told me, and I opened my mouth to complain when she held up a finger.

"I don't care if Bailey contributed, she's gonna mop after you sweep anyways."

I gave her a tight smile before leaving to retrieve the broom and handheld while mom talked to Bailey.

"How was school?" She asked right away, and I peaked from the corner to watch/eavesdrop.

Bailey sighed loudly, running a hand through her hair lightly.

"It was different, but Peter's friends seem nice and were welcoming." She replied, smiling softly.

Owen, Nick, and Kevin were welcoming? That's a first.

"So you've met Elise then?" Mom asks and I tense, squeezing the broom.

I never liked it when she would try to pry out information from my friends about the girl I liked.

"I have," Bailey said, sounding angered by the topic.

Mom sucks in a breath and shakes her head while laughing.

"What kind of vibes did you get?" She asks and leans against the island.

Huh? Mom has never asked this question before.

"Not very pleasant ones, in fact, I think she made me her enemy after last period," Bailey told her, scratching the inside of her wrist.

What?

Elise doesn't like Bailey? I mean I knew her staying with me would make her upset but I didn't know she would dislike Bailey for it.

"Yeah if I'm being honest, I didn't like her that much when Peter brought her home. She gave me the chills with that dead, empty look in her eyes. Kinda like lights on but nobody's home."

So much is happening right now, I think my head is gonna explode.

"I mean I didn't see that look in her eyes, but she would always give me the death glare and actually tried to fight me in gym class," Bailey laughed, tossing her hair over her shoulder.

Mom and she laughed for a few more seconds before continuing their convo when I came back into the room.

"Took you long enough!" Mom exclaimed clapping my back.

I glanced at Bailey who was smiling awkwardly at me, and I licked my lips which made her shiver for some reason.

"Did you get lost in the closest?" Bailey teased and I rolled my eyes.

Mom dragged Bailey upstairs, while I cleaned the mess up lost in my thoughts.

It began to irritate me that Elise didn't like Bailey because I liked Bailey and I also loved Elise, so I wanted them to get along.

I guess it was better if I left it alone though because if they didn't like each other it was for a reason that I had no clue about, and I didn't want to interfere.

Knowing myself I would probably fuck things up between both of them and make it worse for myself, and I didn't want to have to choose between both of them.

It's funny how Bailey's only been at my house for a few days and I had the sudden urge to keep her close to me.
