Chapter Forty: The problem at hand
Sydney came up to me during school, making sure I had been okay.
Said that it was like I went off the rails and how Elise had been bad mouthing me, feeding everyone lies.
I thanked her for standing up for me and then proceeded with my day of getting hit on by Owen and bullied by Nicholas for being stupid and then asked questions by Kevin.
Apparently, Nicholas dared him to try and get Marie to fall for him.
He said that he had managed to 'bump into her' and get Marie to insult him and then kept going after her every chance he got.
They were gonna be hanging out for the first time today after school because she was his tutor.
Kevin said she's fun to tease.
Once school ended Elise said I had to find a ride home because there was an urgent emergency with her family and Peter needed to be there.
Not knowing what to do I just walked home, and of course, it took forty minutes.
Holly was in the kitchen when I dropped my bag against the wall.
"Hey sweetie, how was your first day back?" She asked me, slicing up some cucumbers.
I picked up a couple of them and mumbled 'fine' with a mouth full of food.
Holly could tell I was in a sour mood and I already knew that Elise was the root of my issues.
"She won't be staying much longer,"
I scrunched my brows together and swallowed the cucumber before speaking.
"Who?" I asked.
Elise, duh.
"Elise," Holly answered, gesturing with the knife.
"Her father called today, and said that she was to move back before Thanksgiving."
I raised my brows, looking down at the cutting board.
"He's the chief of police by the way," Holly added, setting the knife down.
I smiled to myself.
Wonder how he'd feel about her underage drinking and use of narcotics.
"So how are things with you and Peter?" She asked, staring at the side of my face.
I shrugged because I didn't know how to answer.
Things still felt weird, if not weirder and I had some big secret to spill.
"I'm sure you two will work things out, Peter doesn't hold grudges he just gets hurt easily,"
I frowned.
"He's only ever had a crush on one person and that's Elise, but when you moved in I noticed how much you've affected him," Holly smiles.
"You changed him, and in a good way but when you left he was crushed. Cried for two nights straight and didn't go to school."
I'm such an ass.
"Found out you stole his car and then cried even harder and said and I quote 'I didn't know she wanted to leave that bad,'"
Awe.
Holly looks behind me and I turn to see him and Elise walking up the sidewalk.
"Be honest with him about how you feel while there's still time," She whispered.
