Chapter Forty-Four: Challenge accepted

Peter had fallen asleep in my bed because I said fuck it to packing my things and spent the night reassuring him and giving him attention.

Holly ended up knocking on my door looking like she was crying and so I got up and left him for a little bit to talk about shit with her and she explained what Peter didn't give her the chance to.

She told me how she didn't know Peter's dad was part of the royal family until he got shot and my mother came up to the police station saying how she was his sister and etc.

Holly and my mom hit it off instantly and she had told my mother how she was married to him and the confession about the royal life went from there.

My uncle was adopted from a poor family that my grandparents were close too and from there, his lie as part of the bloodline began.

Peter's dad had an arranged marriage with the Arlington heiress and they went through with it, even had a kid but then the kings and queens on both sides found out the baby would be illegitimate so they had them give it up or abort it.

Once that happened, one night the heiress of the Arlington kingdom had been murdered (reason still unknown) and that scared my uncle so he decided to leave his royal life and escape while he still could.

That's when he met Holly, but the royal life was still there and he was always taking trips back to Worthington to cut those ties off but people kept dying.

The night before the fourth of July, my uncle had called Holly to let her know that he was coming back and really needed to talk to her because he was in danger but they never got the chance.

The night of his death he had brought my mother with him to Oregon and wrote a note to Holly in case he didn't get the chance to talk to her, because he knew he was going to die.

He gave it to my mother and told her on the way to Oregon everything he wanted to say to Holly, making sure that she would know everything including the whereabouts of his son.

After his death, my mother filled Holly in and told her to find his son because he was also in danger and that he's the only heir to Arlington and Havemeyer's(my grandparents) kingdoms and wealth.

"Holy shit," I whispered.

Holly nodded, closing her eyes with raised brows.

"He's richer than my family, and he's arranged to marry me because?" I asked.

"Well for one he's your grandparent's close friends', sons' son, so already there's that and because he's the last of both bloodlines."

That's a lot, holy shit.

I crossed my arms, "And peter doesn't know any of this?"

She shakes her head, "No,"

"Do you have his birth documents to verify this?" I question.

"Yes? Why?"

Because that means a lot of people would be after Peter if they found out his identity.

"I'm probably not the only family that's on an assassins hit list..." I trailed, furrowing my brows.

Peter and I needed to leave and fast.

"That's very true, which is why his identity was kept secret and the arranged marriage has been put off for years," Holly told me.

"Both families want to wait for the assassinations to stop because, with all these deaths, royal kingdoms have been scared away,"
