Chapter Twenty-Nine: Elise is the love of his life
Queen Helena sent me a card this morning apparently.
Holly had it waiting for me on the counter when I came downstairs for lunch, all laid out next to my meal.
Turns out the bitch does have a heart.
On this special cute little card was her fake name... Julia Anderson.
Sounds like a sweet, caring and loving person!
Ikr.
Wrong.
"Open it while you eat, dear. Otherwise, you might forget," Holly tells me.
Nobody else was in the kitchen besides us, because Peter and the guys were downstairs working out.
Omg imagen all of them without shirts.
Drool-worthy.
I cleared my throat and ripped open the card, not bothering to be careful with wrecking the envelope.
Dear Bailey,
I hope things have been going well with you while you study abroad, and that Sunset Valley has been treating you nice.
I hear Mrs. Kingston is a very well mannered adoptive mother to her son Peter Kingston, I made sure of that-
"Wait, Peter's adopted?" I ask out loud.
Holly chokes on her coffee, and then covers her mouth to wipe the bit that spilled down her chin.
"I'm sorry, what?" She answers, rushing over to my side.
I pointed to the sentence I had just read and allowed her to peak at my card.
"Right here, very well mannered adoptive mother to her son Peter Kingston." I read to her and then hide the card.
I wasn't sure if Queen Helena had added anything else to the letter but if she did, I certainly didn't want Holly to find out about me.
Holly bites her lip and then moves to the other side of the counter shaking her head and chuckling.
So while she was debating telling me about Peter's life before he became her son, I finished the card.
Things have gotten a little rocky back here at home, and if it continues to stay messy I might have Mrs. Kingston extend your study.
I hope you write back and update me on what's all been going on, and I love you very much.
P.S. I got the articles about you taken down.
P.P.S. You're reputation has been wiped clean since you've left.
You're welcome.
~ Mom
"How touching," I say sarcastically.
I wonder if Holly and my mom have ever talked to each other. They seem like they'd be polar opposites to be honest.
Anyways back to the news about Peter, I think I'll ask him myself.
"I'm not really hungry and want to keep things light on my stomach so if I could have some peppermint tea that would be appreciated," I tell Holly, and dart down to the basement.
Peter was bench pressing with Kevin spotting him, and Owen had been doing pushups with Nicholas on his back.
I clap my hands as I walk down the final two steps and smirk at the guys.
"Impressive," I say, crossing my arms.
Kevin almost drops the bar holding the weights onto Peter's chest from my surprise arrival, and Owen bounces to his feet.
"If you don't mind, I'd like to talk to Peter," I inform the guys, glancing around the room.
All of them but Nicholas had been sweating, and it was a sight for the books.
I wish my pen pal could see this.
HA.
Peter's eyes widen and Kevin claps him on the back.
"Good luck, mate." He mumbles follow all the guys up the stairs.
"We'll be gaming in your room," Nicholas informs him.
Once they've left the basement, I walk over and take a seat on the bench next to Peter.
He blows out a breath, and just when I'm about to finish the question he cuts in.
"When were you gonna tell me-"
"-Look I'm sorry about the whole-"
"-You were adopted,"
"-Kissing you thing,"
"Wait, what," We say at the same time.
Peter shakes his head and I furrow my brows before pointing at him.
"You first," Both of us say.
I laugh and he scratches the back of his head.
"I'll go," He grumbles.
Peter adjusts how he's sitting and then inhales a deep breath.
"I know I was a little horndog at the party and I didn't remember anything until I saw your boobs again, but I'm sorry..."
I roll my lips into my mouth, wanting him to say more but if he wasn't comfortable I wasn't going to say anything.
"Thank you, for the-"
Peter holds his hand up to stop me from talking.
"I kissed you first and I wish I could remember the feeling because you were my first, so I want to thank you for not making a big deal about it." He finishes.
In a way, I was kind of glad that I wasn't a big over-thinker when it came to things like this.
"As you know, Elise is the love of my life and you were a big help in getting me out of my comfort zone with those two lessons. I'm sorry if I ever led you on in any way,-"
I snort and then hold up a finger.
"I don't need a whole paragraph apology, Peter. Sorry was enough and honestly speaking you have nothing to apologize for," I tell him, putting a hand on his leg.
"I'm glad those lessons helped because I do see a difference in your behavior, so lets just put this all behind us." I smile.
He stares at me, a small frown forming on his lips and it makes me wonder if this is what he wanted.
Bringing Elise into the apology as the love of his life gave me the signal that he didn't have romantic feelings for me.
That I should stop whatever it is that I had been doing and remain his friend.
Holly's speech that she gave me when we got back from the party still rang in my head, and I knew that this had to end.
Even though we never had a secret fling going on, it was best if I made it clear we couldn't have anything while I was on a contract.
"Okay, ask me what you were gonna ask me," He says, and I snap out of my headspace.
My hand retracts from his leg and his brows furrow when my face becomes serious.
"Are you adopted?" I blurt out.
Oh my God, why would you just say that!
IDFK?!
To my surprise, Peter had no hesitation in answering my question, almost like it wasn't a touchy subject at all.
"Yes,"
