December Has Closure Competition: Defining Winter

Winter in america

The start of it

I think

Signals an end

To the obnoxious

Pumpkin spice trend

And

Winter in

England

Seems to be snow

Like every other country

Except for mine

And

The meaning

Of

Cheesy christmas movies

As well as

Figgy pudding

And for some

Godforsaken reason

Cheese on the side

But

I think winter for me

Is a little bit far away from christmas

I think its more

Torrential rain

With a sincere

Lack of boots

Every year

Without fail

&

I think it's

A sad playlist

In that storm

Blaring through whatever headphones I'm wearing

At that unfortunate

Time of the year

Because

They'll only get drenched

But never enough to drown out the sound

Of Olafur Arnalds

Yes

I think that's a start to what winter means

But its also more than

Green tea under a blanket

Or

Not a stereotypical indoor

Fancy log fire

Instead

Memories

Of scout camps

Long lasting

Huge

Eucalypt branches burning

With withers of smoke

Still going by morning

But that's not

The meaning of inescapable cold

Not to me at least

Anymore

And

Perhaps

To define it

Is to cheapen the quality

The meaning

&

Memories

Of christmas

Don't define it

Celebrate it

Keep it yours

Or

Ours

Share it

Hide it

Love it

Hate it

Feel the bittersweet of celebration

Or the cold

Whatever it is

Keep it as yours

And

I shall keep mine

Throughout every storm
