Did you?

Did you see us dancing?

It didn't even have to be in the summer heat

Or amidst a winter storm

Or under the spring rain

Did you see our picturesque waltz?

On the grass

By the oval

Or

In the kitchen

Atop bench tops

Or

Outside a classroom

Better yet in it

Spinning around tables and chairs

Did you see our scene together

We didn't even have to be actors

We didn't even need fancy costumes

Or un baggy hoodies and clean jeans

Did you see us

Because we didn't even need a fancy ballroom with mirror walls

To see us

Because we could just look into each others eyes

Did you hear our music playing

The instruments you played

And the voices of which we sang

Did you hear the siren of ours

Yet still quiet

Feeling like we were the only ones that could hear

Did you taste the ice cream we shared

The cold sweet dessert favourite

Did you feel my hand as you held it

Did it swelter in the summer

With heat or nerves or time?

Did you read the words I wrote

With a gander

Or precision

Barely ever skimming

Or forever doing so

Did you feel the thing I did

At the same time even

Did you feel the anxiety of the room

The sadness of the place

The beauty that it held outside

And the sorrow within

Did you feel any of it

Did you feel anything with me

Did you love it

Did you hate it

Do you hate me

Or do you love it?

Completely truly impeccably so

Did you do any of these things?

Did you dance

Did you sing

Did you eat

Did you hold

Did you grasp

Did you feel

Did you see

Did you hear

Did you do anything?

Or didn't you have too

Not because you loved me

Not too little

Or either

Too much

But did you do none of it

Because

You don't exist

Or simply

Aren't there yet

Or have soon

To join my life

Maybe not for the first time

Maybe once again

Or maybe you will be

Entirely new

And not nearly forgotten

And perhaps

You will do all those things

But for now

I'll be on my own mountain

Alone

Within my meadow

Dancing

Or looking out

Leaning on the fence

Music to my own soul

Singing in my heart

Dancing alone

Holding my future in my hands

Not yet eating my ice cream

For I don't feel it

Loving myself

For being myself

And
Maybe finally

Doing something for

And being worth myself

For I cannot just wait for you

Forever
