The loud blare of my alarm jolted me awake. "Ugh... damn," I groaned, blinking my eyes open. I was back in my bed. Wait—how the hell did I end up here? The last thing I remembered was closing my eyes while resting on Mr. Erickson's shoulder.

Oh no... don't tell me he brought me here himself. Crap. I didn't mean to be such a burden!

After a quick shower to shake off my embarrassment and the sleep, I rushed into the kitchen to prepare coffee for everyone. As I moved about, the memory of last night still haunted me.

"Shit! I totally forgot about Andrew! How's he doing?" I muttered to myself in a panic.

"He's fine. Now quit mumbling and give me my coffee, damn it," a voice snapped behind me.

I yelped and spun around—there they were, all three of them, seated at the dining table. Mr. Erickson stared at me with his usual stone-cold glare, while Andrew and Finlay quietly glanced in my direction. A fresh white bandage covered Andrew's head.

"What are you daydreaming about? You're making me late!" Jay scolded, his tone sharp and impatient.

"Y–Yeah... sorry," I stammered, quickly bringing the tray of coffee to the table.

Without a word, he downed the coffee in one long gulp.

"S–Sir, I haven't had a chance to prepare breakfast yet..." I admitted nervously.

"I'm already running late. If I wait for you, I'll be heading to work at nightfall," he scoffed.

There it is—Mr. Jackass in full form.

He stood up and looked me dead in the eyes. "Let him skip school today. We've got a medical certificate from the doctor. Got it?"

"Uh... huh?" I looked over at Andrew. For the first time, he gave me a genuine smile.

"Okay," I nodded softly, returning the smile.

Jay turned to leave but not before throwing in one last jab. "By the way, Miss Booby..." he said, causing me to spin around.

Wait—what?

"You're heavy as hell. My arms are still sore from carrying you," he added with a smirk, disappearing from the hall.

I stood there, jaw slack. "I only weigh 46 kilos, you jerk!" I muttered under my breath, cheeks flushed.

"Fatty, fatty!" Finlay chimed in, banging the table gleefully.

"Shut up!" I snapped, turning my glare on him. "You're late for school. Go get ready."

"Yes, Miss Booby," Finlay giggled and ran off.

"That little devil," I growled, watching him disappear. Andrew, still seated, chuckled softly to himself.

"What?" I asked, narrowing my eyes. "You want me to smack your head too?"

He quickly shook his head.

"Go rest," I said more gently. "You heard him, didn't you?"

He got up and left the hall without another word. I let myself smile as I watched him walk away. I really hope Mr. Erickson learns to get along with both of them.

Tomorrow's Saturday, and Leah is expected back on Tuesday. Wait—doesn't Finlay have a school program tomorrow? Hmm... and I've got an interview too.

Later at lunch...

I knocked lightly and entered Andrew's room, holding a tray of lunch and his medicine. He was asleep but lightly stirring.

On his chest lay a photo frame. I picked it up gently and studied the photo—a stunning woman, with the same eyes as Andrew. Must be his mother. No wonder he's so handsome. Give him a few more years, and I bet he'll be breaking hearts left and right like his older brother.
