We've all heard tales of brides fleeing the altar... but what if it's the groom who disappears, leaving behind a heartbroken bride with shattered dreams and unanswered questions?
On what was supposed to be the happiest day of her life, her groom van...
Finally, I can move out of the shop I've been staying in. Thanks to Mr. Watt and Adrian for helping me arrange a new rental place. The landlord was a kind woman, and thankfully, she only has daughters—no nosy or creepy sons to worry about.
After bidding farewell to Adrian, who dropped me back at the shop, everything changed in the blink of an eye. Someone grabbed me and slammed me against the wall, his furious eyes burning into mine.
"What do you think you're doing, huh? How dare you try to move out of this shop!" Parker snarled before landing a stinging slap across my face. "You don't get to leave until I get what I want!" He raised his hand again, but this time—someone stopped him.
Jay.
"W–Who the—" Before Parker could finish his sentence, Jay's fist silenced him with a brutal punch. Parker groaned in pain, his lips split and bleeding.
"You were the one who sent those creepy bodyguards this morning, weren't you?" he spat, smirking through the blood.
Wait... What? Jay warned him?
"What now, Jessy? Did you find yourself a big shot? Is that why you won't sleep with me anymore?" Parker sneered, eyeing me with disdain.
"Shut up, you bastard," Jay growled, grabbing Parker by the collar and lifting him off the ground like he weighed nothing. "She's my wife."
My eyes widened. What...?
Parker looked equally shocked.
"Yes, we're not together now," Jay continued, his voice ice-cold, "but that doesn't mean I'll let someone else lay a finger on her. She'll always be mine. And believe me, I can destroy you in the blink of an eye. Want to see my other side?"
Parker swallowed hard, visibly shaken.
"I'll count to five. If you're still here, I'll make sure everything you own disappears."
Parker clenched his fists, glaring at me with hate before walking away without another word.
I exhaled a long, shaky breath and turned to Jay, who still looked deadly serious.
"Since when am I your wife?" I asked, raising a brow.
He didn't answer. Instead, he walked past me, silent and stoic.
Damn this guy... Still carrying that ridiculous ego.
An idea sparked in my head. Without thinking twice, I ran after him and jumped on his back like I used to before. Climbing him like a monkey.
"F–Fuck!" he cursed, completely startled. "What the hell are you doing?!"
"No reason. Just felt like it," I said playfully, grazing his neck with my nose. He shivered, twisting slightly to shake me off.
"Eww... Get off me, Monkey Girl," he scoffed in exasperation.
I burst out laughing at his reaction. He hadn't changed. Not even a bit.
I wasn't planning to get emotional, but my heart betrayed me. Tears escaped, falling like crystal beads onto his neck. He suddenly stopped walking. We said nothing, but I buried my face in the crook of his neck, silently crying.
I missed him. God, I missed him so much. But I knew I couldn't have him anymore.
Slowly, I began to unwrap my legs, but he caught them and held me tightly again, lifting me up with ease.
"Let's get some fresh air," he said calmly.
I nodded.
We must have drawn a lot of attention, a grown woman being carried on a man's back down the street like some kind of rom-com.

"Am I heavy?" I murmured against his neck.
"Definitely," he replied without hesitation. "What the hell are you eating, Elephant?"
I smacked the back of his head. "Ouch! That hurts, woman!"
"Serves you right," I mumbled as I closed my eyes, feeling peace for the first time in a long while.
The next morning, I woke to find Julissa sleeping beside me. Jesus. Sitting up, the memories of last night came flooding back. If I was here... that means Jay carried me back.
I headed downstairs and saw Tilly making coffee.
"Good morning, sis," she greeted casually.
"Morning... Huh. What happened last night?" I asked, trying to sound nonchalant.
"Your lover boy brought you back here," she replied with a shrug.
"Geez... He's not my lover," I muttered, cheeks warming.
"Hmmm... No comment," she said, smirking slightly as she stirred her coffee. "But seriously, sis... Even after everything, he still came for you. You know he's not doing all this out of pity."
I said nothing, just listened.
"If he's opened his heart again, I think you should too," she continued. "I'm no expert, but avoiding your feelings won't protect you. One day, you'll regret it. Especially when he really leaves..."
She took a sip of her coffee, letting the words settle deep in my chest.
"Okay, sis... I have a date with Andrew. See you later!" she said with a wink.
"Andrew?" I asked, blinking.
"Yeah," she shrugged nonchalantly.
No wonder she woke up earlier than me. That lazy girl is only motivated when she really likes someone. Looks like love truly brings out the best in people. Honestly, they'd make a sweet couple.
After getting Julissa ready, I sent her to school and returned to the bakery. Orders have been flooding in lately, and with both my assistants on leave, I've been handling everything alone. It's exhausting—but I love the challenge.
Since I can't handle both customers and baking at the same time, I decided to keep the shop closed until my assistants return. For now, I'm focusing on baking cupcakes and fulfilling all the pending orders.
